Hi, my name is Michael, from Australia and I am a great fan of electric bikes. I hope to see the 200W limit on bikes in Australia changed so that more people can use these wonderful machines!
It seems like our government has put this limit there to make electric bikes so frustrating to use that people will just go and buy a car or a motorbike instead and get slugged for the ridiculous registration and insurance charges. Considering that a cyclist can easily generate more power than this by PEDALLING, this law makes NO sense whatsoever.

I am sure that as you read this forum, you will find this is not true, especially as power meters are used so extensively for training purposes. The kind of cyclist who will ride electric bikes would be lucky to generate 100 watts, if that, over an extended period. Elite riders might be different.

I WAS referring to REAL cyclists, not people who AVOID cycling! :-)

Well, it's probably just as well the OP has joined BikeForums to learn something about cycling. The Road Forum might be a good place to start reading... and posting his claims about REAL cyclists. :roflmao:
