I have spring break the first week of March and am looking for a place to go riding and camping for a few days. The ideal situation would be a State Park where I could set up camp and then spend the whole day riding. But if not I would take a place where I could camp out and then travel to the trail, whether it be by car or bike. I am looking for PA or NY because I live in NJ. I am also considering finding a couple of trails I want to ride drive out to it ride, camp, then drive to another spot and repeat, working my way back towards NJ; a MTB road trip if you will. I know its going to be tough since some good trails are also ski resorts and those do not close till late March. Oh and I am looking for XC riding! Thanks for any help!

I would look into Caledonia State Park/ Michaux State Forrest. The trails there are the ultimate of the east coast, an opinon shared by Pro racer Chris Eataugh.

That is the local shop that manages the Michaux Mega Series races. A lot of people camp at the trailhead the weekends before the races. These are appalachian mountain trails and there won't be any sizable civilization for 50 miles around in a lot of places. A great place for a race or even an epic. Do bring navigation gear as an emergency thing though. It is so big you could easily get lost. Then if you aren't riding, you can check out Gettysburg itself. A pretty town.

There are a good bit of trails in Bethlehem,PA as well(my hometown). I like to use races as ways to find trails. www.mountainbikeracer.com has a lot of good ones.
Jim Thorpe (trails are supposed to be open again, not sure if they are)
State College, great rides, plenty of MTB'ers and group rides
and Michaux is fantastic riding.
