Hi,
I'm in the process of ordering a Waterford Road Bike the RS22. I need to make a wheel selection and thought I would ask for some help from the board.
My riding style include fast club rides, fast recreational riding. long distance riding half century and whole century. I do not plan on loading the bike.
On occassion I will want to race for fun. I want a fast feeling ride but not squirrelly. Any ideas would be appreciated! :

Hey Dbrian,

What's your price range? For the type of riding you suggested, I believe the best wheel would be a semi-aero rim, like a Mavic CPX-33 or Velocity Rim, laced to either some Ultegra hubs, or Chris King hubs. American Classics are nice too! Go 32 spoke with double butted and have them built up by a professional wheel builder!

Richey has a nice semi-affordable (about $500) wheelset with the OCR technology (off-center rim) to avoid eneven dish of the rear wheel.

If money is no object, and you care about what's hot, then get a $800 set of Ksyriums, or some Rolf Vector Pro's.

But, since you're getting a Waterford, I'd stick with a traditional 32 spoke wheelset laced with a high performance hub!

Mavic Open Pros, 32 butted spoke w/ decent (or better) hubs that will accomodate your drivetrain components. I'd be tempted to try a sealed hub, like White or Phil Wood, but any good loose bearing hub'd be fine.

i guess it depends on your terrain. for me i use mavic open pro's for their being bomb-proof. i am not sponsored, so i need my stuff to last.

Another vote for Open Pros laced to the hubs of your choice. A 32-spoke Open Pro wheel with Ultegra hubs will be almost as light as lightweight boutique wheels and will be, as RiPHRaPH says, almost bomb-proof. What they lack in coolness factor, they more than make up in performance.

Just to give you an idea... the vast majority of riders in this year's Paris-Roubaix were riding on Open pro rims, whether they were labeled or not.

Open Pros and DT spokes. Simple reasonably priced and bombproof. Ultegra or better hubs. For pre builts, I like mavic Kryserium elites and Rolf Vector Pros.
