I overhauled my Nuovo Record rear derailleur last
weekend, new cable, cleaned & relubed everything,
readjusted limit screws etc.
What I've got now is overly sensitive shifting. what would
previously have been a single shift up or down now seems
to move the chain 2 or 3 sprockets. The other thing I'm noticing is
when backpedaling the chain seems to want to come off the
jockey and idler wheels, this is normally a simple
adjustment but now that shifts 2 or 3 sprockets again.
Any ideas? not much out there about maintenance on
N. Record stuff anymore.
thanks,
Marty
oh yeah this is my 300th post :fun:

Excessive sideward play in the jockey and/or idler wheel could cause the problems you report. Also, check the alignment of your derailleur; if the mounting bolt is cross-threaded or your hanger is bent, then the cage will not line up properly with your chain. Good luck. Let us know what you find.

Yup, I'm with John E. It sounds like the derailure isn't aligned correctly.

Thanks for the replies.
I didn't think about alignment due to the
over sensitive shifting. I was looking more
towards tension in derailleur body, and I really
didn't want to get into replacing all the internals
(although I may have to)
Will check alignment when I get home tonight.
I'll let you know when I figure it out.
