My kids and their friends just text each other from the driveway. I still like to honk my horn several times though.

Drives me crazy. My in-laws take it further and honk their horn repeatedly as they drive down the street when they are leaving, still honking a block or two away. I tell them to please stop doing that, so they do it even longer the next time.
Better still, the people who drive home, text their spouse that they are home, and then go inside. I thought this was an urban legend type thing until I saw two of my friends do this. I couldn't believe it.

He should probably wear ear plugs or just stay indoors.

Yeah, that drives me nuts. But I will admit that when I was in college, my roommate and I would IM each other about going to the cafeteria from across the room. Mainly, we did it just be dicks because of how stupid it was, but I knew people that seriously thought that was easier than just asking each other.

I've gone outside and told people to shut the hell up for that before. They're usually so shocked about someone having the balls to do so that they're very apologetic... and then I almost feel bad. Almost.

Welcome to America, where I am pretty sure most people go straight from TV to car to TV and can not be troubled to leave the peace and safety of either.
My neighbors used to have a carpool pull up into their driveway in the early morning and honk until they came out to get in. One morning they pull up and honk loudly, I lean out the front door half-dressed and yell out in Spanish and English, "Ya voy, I'm coming!". Two days of this and they learned to telephone their friends to come out instead of honk.

I learned to NEVER honk for someone when I was fifteen. My mom had run back inside for something and after what seemed like forever, I leaned over the driver's seat and gave the horn a little toot. About 5 seconds later the door to the garage flew open and my mom had the most pissed off expression on her face that I had ever seen. She spent several minutes lecturing me on manners and how honking a horn was one of the most rude things you could do. I've never done it again.

Tell that to the Brazilians! They use it to say "Hey, look over here, I am about to do something interesting!" in traffic.
