Mountain Biking - Monster T on Kona Scrap??

My brother has a 2004 Kona Scrap and he found 2002 Monster T's for sale in the paper. We researched the fork and found that they are 175mm and have 40mm stanchions. Will that be too much weight. I've seen many hardtails with dual crown forks, but never any with 40mm stanchions.

Ok on a semi serious note. Yes I have seen it, it not only looks dumb on such a small bike but completely destroys the ride. It will change the geometry of the bike so badly you couldn't ride it anywhere....It also will put tonnes of pressure on the headtube and could cause catastrophic failure by ripping the headtube off. Not to mention how ridiculously heavy Monsters are (I owned one for about 3 weeks)...Unless he is hanging his bike on the wall for display in "pinkbike hall of fame" this should be a resounding NO!!! Do not do this.

Putting a fork with that much travel and weight on a hardtail would make it ride horrible. The rake would be way stretched out, so it would probably ride like a chopper. Its also probably to big of a fork for the frame; the rake would put so much stress on the headtube and welds, that it could snap from a big enough drop. It would also make the front REALLY heavy. Look into a DirtJumper or a Z1.

O, I seriously didnt know because my friend has Jr T's on a Kona Chute, and I didnt know if the fatter stanchions really added that much weight.

The OLD monsters that were 5 and 6 inches might work. But nobody sells those anymore. They are indestructible and very rare people let them go (I traded mine away)

an 02' Monster weighs about 8.5lbs....not 13lbs like the new ones. They arent that bad, and it wont ride like a chopper...but it will be raked out.

I liked the 2000. I sometimes regret trading it. Solid...

light duel crowns like the jr t of the sherman slider are fine, but this is going a little over board unless you have a super strong frame like that evil.... i cant get over that its a single speed with a monster t

The only time ive seen a hardtail with a DC fork that didnt look absolutley ridiculous was a Banshee Morphine with a jr T. Honestly thats the only hardtail id throw a DC on.

Yeah it, like the evil, is built around a long travel fork. Ironically, when you hop on either they don't feel wrong. They are still very rideable as per the design. In fact a slider looks small on an evil imperial haha

the 2nd one.... the Evil with the SuperMonster... holy crap that just looks ridiculous. No way anyone could ride that thing. The seat is almost perpendicular to the ground!

my favorite fork has got to be an 02 Shiver DC
(looks best, never ridden one)
