I was sitting in the living room and hear klaxons and see red lights rolling down the folks' road again.
However this time they were headed to my brother's house. He had himself a good old fashioned chimney fire this evening. Yes he did.

I went down there to find him in the front yard with smoke coming out of his front door and a fireman putting an oxygen mask on him.

Turns out there is no damage, Victor's chimney is built like a blast furnace. The firemen say there is no sign of danger on their thermal cameras. Even though there is fire licking out of the top of his chimney, it's just going to burn itself out--no harm done.

They have the mask on Vic because he was hyperventilating.
The EMTs are sitting with him until he's calmed down some.

I'm going to go take him some marshmallows and brandy.

You're all sorts of effed up.

Geez. Last time it was a skunk at the folks house right? That's brutal. Much smoke damage?

His house got filled with smoke, but nothing opening the windows and doors isn't taking care of.
His wood stove has fire extinguisher dust all over it.
Looks like a shop-vac is about all that is going to be needed for repairs.

He didn't want the marshmallows. The brandy went over better.

Will he be hiring a chimney sweep?

for what? Sounds like all the buildup probably burned out and the chimney is pretty clean.
Not sure about the rest of the house though....

I think I'd want to make sure before I lit another fire in the fireplace.

What's the fun in that? Maybe he enjoys the firemen's company.

At this point, all I burn in my fireplace is candles.

He called the store where he bought his wood stove. They have sweep service and are going to inspect the chimney.

Tell him to throw in an empty aluminum can onto a hot fire now and then. The aluminum helps to rid the chimney of the build up that occurs. Also to have good fire going for awhile to heat up the stack before he dampens it down.
