Ok when the iPad mini was announced I thought it demonstrated that Apple was out of ideas. Well today I got the chance to use one for some time and it's brilliant. Last week I had the chance to use the Microsoft Surface and while the hardware is brilliant the OS is clearly not ready for primetime. The iPad is still the best tablet out there and the iPad mini is the best tablet for 90% of the people.

Why do I say 90%? I think for most people the mini is perfect, if you handle a large number of documents daily you might want the 4th Gen iPad. In fact I think Apple may position the full size iPad as the enterprise iPad while the mini will be the consumer iPad.

Anyone else played with one of these yet?

This is the first I've heard of a mini iPad.

I have an ipad2 and I think it is a good size for me, if anything I could stand it being a tiny bit larger. I would not want a smaller tablet and it would be harder for me to use, but maybe there is an advantage for people that want to carry theirs around in a backpack or purse.

They might knock $50 off it. BB might do a little better. Black Friday is typically the only day that Apple stuff goes "on sale". I'd be tempted if it were available for $250. If they're on sale at all would be a surprise since they're still very much a new offering.

Or maybe as the maxipad?

Don't mind me. I don't have a use for any kind of tablet. If typing is slower on them they don't have a use for me, but obviously they do have for a lot of other people.

Airlines too. American and at least one other airline are looking at replacing 35 pounds of flight manuals that go with each pilot, with iPads.

If you've ever used sectional charts on an ipad you don't want to go back to paper.

Last year I bought my iPad2 at the Apple Store and they had $50 off. I belive that is the only time of year that they have a sale. Don't know if they will include the mini this year, as last week I overheard that they were still selling out between shipments. The told an individual to order online with local pickup, and when the truck arrives those are held back for pickup.

Last year Best Buy didn't have discount on the iPad 2 on Black Friday...thus went to the apple store and sacraficed the rewards points. Did see on their advanced "Black Friday" ad yesterday that had $65 off on the full size new Retina Display ipad, but didn't check the mini. It is not showing as I take that email link in today, so must have been Monday only. Because i am going to be out of town on Black Friday, a couple weeks ago I sold my iPad2 and bought the Retina Display ipad. Thought about taking it in requesting the $65 discount in lieu of return and repurchase but had a meeting all day yesterday.
