Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Yes i amit i am new at winter bikeing, i am about to get a new bike and want studded tires for em (i live in alaska) I was worndring what bike you would think is better trek 4500 or a cannondale f400, and also what brand and make studded tires you would recomend, i would liike to spend 170 or less on studded tires if pasablewithout comprisming on the qualty by alot ty in avance :)
You're in Alaska? Get a pair of Nokian studded tyres. Exactly which pair pretty much depends on your requirements: the narrow, relatively sparsely studded W106 is great for commuting, the more aggressive wider models (e.g. the Extreme 294) are better for off-roadish conditions.

Both the Trek and Cannodale are great picks for winter riding. Maybe even a used mountain bike. They are not to expensive and replacement parts are cheap. Go with something cheap winter can totally wreck a bike.
Tires I agree with Juha, Start with w106 Nokians. They will last you a while. The one I had lasted 4 years! If it comes down to money with your tires, go with just one on the front. If your going to buy one put it on the front. Save the money an buy a set of fenders. You going to need them when spring thaw comes around.
I use Plant Bike fenders. They work great. http://www.planetbike.com/index.html

Just posted these measurments over in the mechanics forum.
Would have posted them sooner but just got the tires mounted.
Weinmann 519 rim 24mm
Nokian Hakkapeliitta W106 37-622, (700x35C)
Diameter 695mm
Width: 33mm
There going on a 7 speed Schwinn Traveler, enough room for the W106s and fenders.
And yes I mean 7 speed, just have a 46 tooth on the crank.
