Tattoos are as old as humanity. They aren't going away. Why would someone care about tattoos in a nursing home? The only concern I see with the current trend are young kids getting tattoos in uncoverable places like the head, neck and hands. Finding work right now is difficult. Having visible tattoos makes it even harder and will straight-up disqualify you from many. High School kids are getting tattoos now. I have nothing agaisnt tattoos. I have a couple and would like to get some more. But some folks take it a little too far simply to be "extreme". Especially here in Southern California...everyone is trying to be extreme. When I lived in Athens, Georgia I NEVER saw a woman with a full sleeve tattoo. Out here you can't go to the grocery store without seeing half-dozen women with massive tattoos.

This. I've been watching Inkmasters and Tattoo Nightmares on Spike. It takes the right tattoo on the right body to look good. I have the wrong body. Mine already has a toe tag.

I kind of like tattoos. I think that for the most part they should be hidden though, not on the face or hands or anything. Anything else and it's just like "Hey look at me." Though for some reason I do find women with a lot of tattoos sexy. I've got a friend from high school that got treated like a wuss back then, so he went and got like 10k worth of ink. Full sleeves, a couple neck pieces, and I kid you not, a giant Chicago Bulls symbol on the back of his head and "South" on one side, and "Side" on the other... That's mostly what I think of when I see people all tatted up. I have one on my upper arm that I got when I was like 16, and it's good for a laugh now and then. I occasionally consider getting more... but they would all be hidden and things that have a strong personal connection for me.

4 tats, all custom, no flash. I agonized over the first one; the rest were easier.

Two on one arm, above the short sleeve line, hidden unless I'm at yoga, swimming, or nekkid with someone.

One on my sternum. Ow. Again, hidden below even a second undone button on a shirt.

One on the back of my left hand ring-finger right about where the wedding band I lost used to hang out...

Future tattoos might include a pair of soot creatures from Spirited Away, "DNR" on my chest, and/or a collage of different typeface "i"s on the back of my head.

Would love to get more ink, but for the cost, there always seems to be something better to spend money on. Food, bike parts -- necessities... Ink is something to save for, or something to do with windfall cash.

Women with tats are way-hot. Knew one with the card suites done small in a diamond pattern up an arm. Another with a flower pattern stretching from left ankle, snaking up and around to drape over right shoulder. Super hot. Full sleeves done right are pretty; most are not done right.

Nobody can ever tell that I have my tatts, for they are never on public display. Well, not sure if you want to call it one or two - I had one done and then the other one incorporated with it so now it looks like one large tatt. Took me 12 years to finish designing and editing them as well as being sure that I wanted something this permanent. And as an adult I also asked my mother's permission. What it represents is very personal and she understood. She granted it before she passed on - she was able to see right after I came back from having them done and approved of the art work and its meaning.

I have no need for any more.

So What good is a tatt if no one can see it?

Unless offensive, tattoos don't bother me. I do have on myself, but restricted it to my foot. I think if it were seen in the office they would be more concerned about my bare feet than my ink.

Some people say they are addictive. I can't see how they are. It took a loooong time for me to decide to have this put on my body. I feel that something permanent on my body has to be VERY special and not just some spur of the moment "hey that's cool!" type of deal. My mother was against tatts on females but my older brother has many. So for her to approve was very important for me and her contingency was that it were to be done to perfection and only by an artist my brother had, who had won 3rd place in Japan for his freehand art. In other words, most tatts are done by making a copy of the art and then apply a stencil copy to the skin. Mine was done completely freehand with my drawing on an easel to the side of me.

The ones I got are mementos. Unique designs which mean something to me and represent some part of my life, some period, some change, ...something. And something I won't regret.

I've thought about tattoos and regret, and because I'd never do something that permanent on a lark, regret from a tat would only be caused by something I regret in my life, and something important enough at the time to memorialize painfully. At which point, that tat would become a permanent reminder of something to avoid in the future...

First tattoo I got was at age 37 -- midlife crisis, anyone? -- and I got lucky with a decent artist. Others, not so much. But nothing hideous.

I have one on my shoulder above the short sleve level. Got it after my brother and I sunk a sailboat in a storm and spent 3 hours in the water. We were both very hypothemic and had said our goodbyes when some guy came along and just happened to spot us. I see and appreciate it everyday, but no one else needs to.

I often ride my bike (the one you pedal) to Neptune's Net, on PCH. NN is a hang out for bikers and biker wanna be (the bikes you drive). You'd be surprised at all the dentists, CPAs, and lawyers, etc. sporting tats. They have poseur written all over them. :roflmao2:

I have no tats but I can see where people think they're cool, some of them are. What bugs me is when people get tats that have no real significant meaning to them just for the sake of getting ink. I understand your kids names or USMC (if your a marine) but Like a tribal armband on a guy who grew up in Vermont. what tribe are you from buddy?? or a spiderweb on your elbow which is very common, I guess I just dont get it.
