See, that's me being an a-hole :D
I can't disagree with you on that! :D

conversely, hearts (cardio-vascular systems) can be trained, and unlike common misconception, a trained heart has a lower not higher maximum. You will note for example when they test LA, he clicked along in the 170's at max effort. Joe dork will register over 200 at max effort at the same age.
BTW, if you have a high end Polar HRM that does the fitness test, you will find that it will predict a lower max heart rate as your fitness score increases.
Adding to the above; a fit or exercised heart cannot beat too fast to destroy itself. A major killer in automobile accidents and other traumatic events is a run-a-way heart beat. The famous Dr. Ken Cooper, the guy who did aerobics research on some 5000 Airforce "volunteer subjects" and who started the aerobics/jogging craze, demonstrated that in his work. One of my previous doctors, now retired, was an MD at the neighboring Airforce base when cooper was running his test subjects. My doctor became an avid jogger after seeing the data/results.

Al So a fit heart will not run away in a traumatic event-interesting. I also found it interesting that you quoted a post that had a couple of items that were wrong. If any body is still reading this post year mhr goes down when you get unfit so if you stay fit like we are supposed to it will not change.

I can't argue with that. I have almost zero knowledge of max heart rate except what I have read here. It might still be zero for all I know, however, I saw a relationship between the claim that a fit person will have a lower heart rate than a nono-fit person and the fact that an exercised heart will limit it's maximum beat rate well below that which it can lose it's efficiency as a pump and cause death.

Max heart rate is the fastest your SA, AV, Purkinje fibers will generate and propagate the electrical impulse to your muscles which have to contract in order to generate a heart beat.
The electrical event and the mechanical even are 2 distinct things. They usually depend on one another but there are plenty of situations where there is electrical signals on an ECG/EKG (or your HRM) and your heart isn't beating :)
If you try attaining your Max HR while running, you woudl record a higher Max HR than if you're doing it on a bike. Different physiologic things going on.
You guys need to stop reading FUD on the internet and pick up a basic physiology text. Some of the stuff I read in here is downright hilarious and makes for great jokes during surgery.
