Bicycle Mechanics - Most Effective Clip On Fender For Race Bike?

My daily commuter is now a rain bike. Because, it's raining every day.

Without doing any research, I ordered and installed some Race Blades. They work okay, but not great. The front tire throws a continuous spray forward which the bike has to ride through, while the rear tire constantly sprays the seat tube, chainrings, bottom bracket. The bike is constantly filthy. Neither fender extends far enough down the trailing side of the tire. My shoes and lower legs get almost as wet with, as without, the Race Blades. They are effective in keeping my torso, back and butt from bring sprayed.

Perhaps I should have asked here first. Well, no time like the present.

What is the most effective clip on fender that will fit on an old race bike (1982 Peugeot PSV) - by race bike, I mean it has clearances much too tight for normal fenders, and no dropout eyelets. That are reasonably light and not terribly ugly? 700C wheels x 25 tires. Will be used daily in sometimes-heavy rain.

I've been using the Planet Bike fenders for the last couple of years. Work well for me.

shoe covers are another rain gear item to have handy.

The Planet Bike fenders referenced above are much too big and bulky to fit on any common road/sport bike with short reach caliper brakes and/or snug tire clearances. They are intended for Touring or Cyclocross frames with generous frame and fork clearances and at worst, long reach calipers or, better, canti or V-brakes. I have a set on my Cross Check and they work well but there is absolutely no way they could be installed on my road bikes.

The "Crudcatchers" are a possible choice and seem to work adequately. Their coverage is not great but far better than most clip-ons. I've heard they are a bit fragile but have no personal experience with them. I believe they were developed to allow "mudguards" to be fitted to tight clearance sports bikes since UK Audex regulations require mudguards.

After using a couple of sets of Crud road race fenders I just got a set SKS Raceblade Long fenders. The Cruds were kind of a pain to put on and take off and tweaky to keep from rubbing. They're also quite fragile. The SKS have clips that mount under the brake caliper mounting bolts and extend forward and back , and clips that go under the ends of the QRs. There are 4 fender segments that easily clip in and out. Coverage is pretty good, maybe not as good as the Cruds, but in my experience, no fender keeps you dry or the bike from getting wet and gritty.

Crud Roadracers are a workable solution but the SKS Raceblade Long is far better in my experience. I own both of these plus a set of normal Raceblades.
