Every now and then I think of an album I would like to have. I've been having someone do it for me. She burns it onto cds for me. It is a pain getting her to do it and she does it illegally. I would like to do it-legally. How do I do it?

Go to Amazon and buy the tracks or album and they are YOURS, no DRM is involved. Amazon can keep them online for you should you lose them you can redownload them again. Converslt you can go to a service like iTunes, but DRM is involved and you can opnly play the music on subscribed devices.

I'm using Google Play at the moment and I believe that they allow unlimited streaming, but limited to so many downloads and/or devices. iTunes has a way bigger library than Google does currently, but I never was a fan of how they locked down your own purchases. If Amazon truly is DRM free, that sounds like the way to go.

You can also buy the CD and then download it to your computer. Sometimes a CD on sale at a store is cheaper than buying it online.

Buy used CDs on Amazon, rip them to your PC, then resell them for what you paid for them...or more if you can get it. Completely legit.

Many public libraries have cd's to check out. I may not be legal to make copies.

Amazon or the library. I like the library, you can copy the CD without any compression.

In the USA it is NOT currently legal to rip CD's borrowed from the library, doing so is against the "fair use" doctrine, however BUYING the CD and ripping it for you own personal use IS perfectly legal.

i use soulseek (http://www.soulseekqt.net/news/) to trade music with friends in different states i see infrequently. my friend dan in austin used to record live stuff like modest mouse, uncle tupelo, pavement, and other indie bands, and has thousands of recordings on his pc. soulseek is great for file sharing.

Amazon is my preferred choice to download music.
iTunes is next.

Haven't been happy with any of the others.
