Wgat is the best sounding headphones for under 50 is it still the porto pros?

In or over ear?
I recently bought some Ultimate Ears (buds) that are decent. They were ~$50. Not great. But decent.

I am not realy sure .I been seing in ear headphones for like 15 years.i Kinda assumed the in ears would be louder .I love my music loud and heavy metal.What im looking for is headphones that sound amazing and be played loud useing sony mdrex37 now there not bad

I don't put too much stock in online reviews for earphones. I returned a $75 set of Klipsch that sounded no better than a $20 set of Skullcandy. FWIW, it seems reasonable to assume that over-the-ear style are less dependent on the shape of the listener's ear.

These sony sounds pretty good but im always looking for better.Ha i payed 5 bucks s a pair for some jvc gumys and they sound good to

YEah the sonys are nice but there a old design so i wonder if the new stuff has some new tech for better sound.thats why im not sure about the porto pros which been around since i was in my 20s

I bought a set of AKG's from musiciansfriend while they were on sale for around $45. I've nothing to compare them to, but they're very nice.

I'd suggest in-ear buds. If you like to crank the music, they're more considerate to others around you and they're more sensitive, requiring less power for the same volume level. I have the discontinued etyomtic er6i (http://www.amazon.com/Etymotic-Research-Isolator-In-Ear-Earphones/dp/B000BQSGMM/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top). They seem to be quite accurate and have amazing noise-insulation. I have used them as ear-plugs without music playing. This is not a good choice when you need situational awareness. My only complaint would be a slight lack of bass response.

I'm a bang for the buck guy, and while I think the terms "audiophile" and "$50" are mutually exclusive (former audiophile here), I do believe you can get some very good sounding headphones for $50-75.

I use the Ultimate Ears 350 series as a phone headset for calls, and they have very solid music performance for $60. These are "in-ear" headphones, which can be hit-or-miss on fit, and improperly fitting ear canal phones will not sound good. So, that's the caveat on in-ear phones. Avoid "earbuds" - very few will deliver what you are looking for. These typically do not form a seal, and can be uncomfortable if you do try to get them to seal. "ear canal" or "in ear" phones with silicone tips of various sizes will be the ones to look for. You have to spend time fiddling with the various tips and positioning to get the sound right.

More reliable performance will be found on the standard type headphones that clamp your head ;)
For your price range, you will not likely find many circumaural (surround the ears, versus sitting on them) but it is worth seeking those out, opting for "closed" type based on your music preference. "Monitoring" or "studio" headphones would probably be your best bet.

Audio Technica makes good phones for the money. The ATH-M50 (http://www.gosale.com/5795210/audio-technica-ath-m50?gclid=CILGopqb7rMCFQVgMgodUVoABg) might fit the bill for you, despite the fact that they are a bit pricier than your $50 limit. The M30 (http://reviews.cnet.com/2300-6468_7-10012542.html)'s are a notch down, but seem to be a good value.

There are numerous headphones with smaller earcups that sit on your ears that also offer decent performance.

This site is the headphone equivalent of this here fine bicycle forum: http://www.head-fi.org/ they have extensive headphone reviews and active discussion. There is very likely a pile of threads on the sub $100 performers.

Beware of the current trend (your rap artist reference is a clue) towards headphones with exaggerated bass response, often at the expense of detail in the mid and highs.

Your not getting this audiophile thing. In the audiophile world its ALL about performance and styling and big names don't cut it. Oh and $50 is peanuts.

I ordered the porta pros they been around for ever i almost recall having them when i was a kid.U realy should check out the sansa clip zip even before i rockboxed it it sounded great
