General Cycling Discussion - Hello from Miami

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi everyone,
My name is Fred and this is my first post to this forum. I wanted to introduce myself and ask a few questions of the Cycling experts.
I used to ride bikes ( mountaind and road ) a few years ago and still own my original Jamis road bike and my Gary Fisher no suspesion  mountain bike but I've been out of it long enough that I don't know much about bikes anymore.
My wife and I are opening a Kayak and bike rental shop at Oleta River State Park in North Miami and we need to buy a few bikes so I wanted to ask what are some good brands, models to consider. We are looking for ease of maintenance, durability and price ( of course :) ). At the park we have several miles of mountain bike trails as well as some flat bike paths and a small BMX course.
Any help is appreciated and if you are in the SoFla area and come by Oleta please make sure and come meet us!

Was wondering if you had a map showing the bike trails for both mtb & road bikes.
Good luck with the venture, I would play dumb and go to c.b.smith park and see what bikes they rent there.
I think for maintenace it may be worth going to a park schools course for bike repair.

Scotsman, I'll get you some pics of the trails as soon as I can get them.
Regarding the bikes, I called Specialized and Cannondale today and they seem to be willing to outfit us with some nice bikes but I'll try checking out CB Smith park as you suggested. What bike school are you speaking about?
TIA,
Fred

That was a great link!, Thanks!,,
I'm going to take my old Gary Fisher and start learning how to fix it with this while I look for a real bike tech for our shop.
Changing subjects, What does everyone think about Kona Bikes? I had never heard of them but have been reading good reviews on the MTB site. It seems that there are no dealers for them in FL.?

I know of 2 trails in Ft.lauderdale. Markham Park and Quiet Waters. (off road)
There is a paved, path paralleling I-595 from University to Markham Park (I-595 and I-75 NW corner)

CE, I think Scottsman was asking about the trails at Oleta. I found a map that shows the trails ( note very well) but its part of a 125 page PDF manual of the park and I don't know how to get just the map out. I may have to print it and than scan it for you guys. I'll see what I can do.
On the Kona bike thing, I think we're leaning towards adopting their bikes for our rentals, if anyone has suggestions on some good models for MTBs from them I'd aprreciate it.
