Winter Cycling - morning routine?

Does anyone have any special morning routine? I was thinking like 20 min on a trainer before suiting up and braving the cold, or loading up on a hot beverage. I am guessing my routine this year will be the oh crap I'm late. It's winter I am even later....damn. I was just wondering if there are any unique routines.

You are right about being later in winter... today was my first ride in to the office on studded tires, and it looks like I am going to have to set the alarm 5-10 minutes earlier to account for slower going now that I'm on the studs.
I have a routine of sorts, but I do most of it the night before. Do any necessary laundry to be ready for the next day, do basic bike check and air up the tires and grease the drive shaft if needed (I ride a chainless bike), make a batch of granola if I am out, pack the panniers for the next day (clothes, granola, etc.). In the morning, I watch the local cable weather channel for updated weather while drinking a diet pepsi, then finalize the pannier packing, dress, load up and go. Diet Pepsi is not the drink of choice for world-class athletes, but I like it and it starts the caffeine-kick and ensures I won't be thirsty for the half-hour commute.
I'll be interested to read any other morning routines...

I have a very simple morning routine: I get up, have a coffee, surf the net for few minutes, pack up my stuff, dress up and ready to go. I always set my alarm extra early, and leave home early...I give myself extra time just in case of some emergency. Never ever been late anywhere.

stand out on the porch, mutter profanities under my breath how cold it is, and decide if the streets are white enough to ski to work instead of bike.
I like the mornings and get up a couple of hours before having to leave. I hate rushing out of the house in the morning (that tired, nervous feeling in the lower back is not fun at all) and always try have ample time in the morning to wake up, have a second cup of coffee, eat and feel non-rushed about leaving the house.
my current winter routine moving forward into this winter. already muttered my profanities this morning.

My current routine is this:
Wake up when toddler starts screaming, get the toddler changed/playing with something or eating
Play on the interwebz while almost always forgetting to pay attention to the clock because I find something interesting to read.
Realize I have only 10 mins to get ready so shove food down my throat and throw on clothes while waking up the wife to take over with toddlerman.
Throw lunch together and put it in the panniers and head out the door.
If I am really late, hope I don't have a headwind.

I get up plenty early in order to not be rushed.
About the only other thing that comes to mind is that I go out and unlock the bike and load it with my gear only partially dressed up for the weather. Boots, overalls and, maybe, a stocking cap. Then I come back in, vaguely chilly, and sit down for one last cup of coffee. Then I put on the heavy coat, gloves, helmet, stocking cap, face mask and all that stuff.
It's a bit less difficult than gearing up dressed in my arctic exploration gear. You know how it is; that can get kinda stiff. Then when you do get that restrictive clothing on, you're out the door and pedaling.

My morning routine is similar, most of the work is done the night before so other than checking the weather on the pc I can do it literally half asleep. I have an amusingly short commute over paved trails and city streets so ymmv.
The most important commodity in the morning is time. If you can save that by establishing a routine the evening before you can literally sleep in and still make it to work. Install the correct tyres for the weather, pressures, set seat a little lower if you want kids in the future and oil everything massively. Remember though, even if you wake up and throw your gear on as you are running out the door, take time to drink as much water as you can reasonably hold. I drink a litre or so (a lot more during Stampede) and then just take off on the commute.
