I own an Aegis Aro Svelte. It's beautiful, hand built, carbon frame and fork, all components are dura-ace or ultegra... Although the bike is 8 years old, and a 60cm frame, she comes in at just under 18 lbs.

The times are a-changin'. I would really like to do a few things- a) convert to a single speed, and b) paint entire bike. I now live in florida, which is very flat and just ride for pleasure, and there are too many little scuffs. I think she'd look great with a new paint job.

How much would I get from the cassette, brake levers, etc, that I wouldn't need and sell?
How much would it cost to convert to single speed?
Can you paint carbon fiber, just like a steel or aluminum bike?

...and lastly, how much would the finished product weigh? An educated estimate would be awesome.

Any help very much appreciated.

id like to say redish rear wheel, chain tensioner and freewheel, use rear and front brakes from current build.
depending, on chainline, largest ring on crankset leave as is or move to outside of spider?

and dont paint carbon??

Price? dunno depends on who you go through,.

You can get $85 for the components.

It will cost $450 to convert it.

You can paint carbon just fine.

It will weigh 13.5 lbs if you only use two coats of paint and spend $450 on the conversion.

I've never seen a full carbon SS. This should be interesting...

If I were you, I wouldn't convert it.

You can check eBay completed listings to get an idea of how much people are willing to pay for items.

You can buy SS cassette conversion kits, I think those start at about $20. Plus you will need new brake levers if you sell your shifters

I've never seen a full carbon SS.
Look up SS cyclocross

If your rear wheel is of decent quality it may be easier and cheaper to sell the entire wheel and buy a properly dished single speed wheel.

If your aegis is anything like MY aegis (http://imgur.com/a/1JSTI#0) Id seriously think about contacting a local machine shop to make you some track ends you can bolt in to the dropouts.

What generation of ultegra/DA are we talking about here? How many speeds?

it would probably be easiest and cheapest to just convert the freehub to a single speed with a bunch of spacers and not worry about redishing the wheel at all
