Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Recommend me some gold chainring bolts that don't suck
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
i put some origin8 chainring bolts on my bike to dress it up. All's well, even got the drivetrain a little smoother with the Sheldon Brown "tap the chain" method. Tighten everything up, great, then i get a creak in a week or so. Go to tighten the loose bolt and the HEAD SNAPPED OFF in two pcs and shot across the room. And I am not talking about gorilla torque here. So back on with the stock bolts, then.
So this is a totally silly dressup part, but are there any gold colored bolts you can recommend?
Oh, and this is for a stock 2012 kilo crankset (no brand marking i can see on it).

Anything gold will be alloy.
Anything alloy will suck.
Fair enough. Google did find me some ti bolts for a double crankset but that's overkill for a POS stock crank. 50 dollar bolts on a 40 dollar crank.

I've snapped aluminum bolts, toe clips, etc. Sometimes the weight savings / looks just aren't worth the trade-off from stronger but heavier steel.
