several threads have gone back and forth between newbs and the old guard about the trek fx and drop bars... i did a build this weekend and i have to say that i like it.
specs:
2013 fx 7.4 (japan) aluminum/carbon fork frame
all 105 drive but with shimano cx50 canti brakes
everything else is stock bontrager, minus the bar which is fsa-sale-bin-something
im quite sure that the conversion could have been done with sola levers, a cheap bar, bar tape, canti hangers, and cantis for inside $150 easy.
i have to say, its a comfortable ride. not nearly worth the cash if youre buying 105 everything new (i did not), but im considering skipping road bikes and going for comfort from here on out for my commuting. it gives a bit of stretch without forcing you into race tuck mode, or "ride the hoods while pretending im about to go into race tuck mode" mode.
ps: if you reply with geometry/resistance whatever, youre missing the point.
pps: the frame is a 58cm, and im 183cm, 83cm inside. crank is 175 compact double, 10 speed cassette 12-28. edit: the stem is flipped down. i also took a ride with 23 tires and said f-it, stock 32 comfort.
edit again: yes, that is a 19cm head tube.
