Commuting - Merino Wool Sweaters at Costco - $25

Wanted to post this because there's a lot of talk regarding merino wool in the winter time. I was in my local Costco on Saturday and noticed a table full of Kirkland brand merino wool sweaters for $25. I have always wanted to try this in the cold months so I bought two and they do make a difference...just couldn't bring myself to pay so much for what I had found online earlier.

They aren't too "dressy" looking at all and something I can wear on the ride in and for the rest of the day around the office.

Are those super thin? I got two Kirkland merino wool sweaters at Sam's last year for $10. Use them as base layers.

it's not what you have, it's what you do with it. just because it's made of a certain fiber, doesn't mean it's made well. sometimes a more expensive version is worth the price. if you take care of the cheaper one, it may do just fine.

I got one of these a couple of years ago for $20. I've been kicking myself for not buying more. It's an excellent shirt. It's cut just like a polo shirt, but it has long sleeves. I'm going to run over to my local Costco today. megalowmatt, thanks for the tip!

I got it to wear on the bike, but ended up saving it for work duty. Why? Because in the 30-some degree days that I wore it under a wind-proof jacket, I was POURING sweat when I got to work. Despite how thing it was, I was still getting TOO hot.

Still been considering to buy another, they are pretty darn nice for the money. I don't really care for the collar, but I've got a tree-trunk for a neck so this is a common complaint for me.

Too bad there is no Costco near me, nor do I have a Costco membership. :(

If I lived in the States I'd make a beeline for my nearest Costco. That's an outfit that pays its workers a living wage and offers quality products.

I'm definitely going to brave the holiday shopping crowds to get to the Costco tomorrow. I need some "bagels" too.

Ok, I was curious if you were talking about the 1/4 zips or the V-necks since the Costcos here have both. I think the V-necks are branded Calvin Klein. The V-necks are a bit looser fitting and also have a seam running along the top of the shoulder so not the best thing if you carry a backpack. The 1/4 zip depicted is constructed differently so there is a seam in front and behind the shoulder instead.

Also be careful you get the right item. Last I saw there were sweaters made from modal (rayon) which is more absorbent than cotton. There were also some cotton sweaters there too.

The wind-proof jacket is the culprit here, not the wool. (I assume you meant "thin", not "thing"). If you want wind-proof you'll do well to have some means of ventilating, like pit zips provide.
