Hey guys,

Currently working on converting my single speed to a fixed without shelling out the money for a flip-flop, though I know this would be easiest. I'm having an issue with getting a lock ring to fit the single speed hub. I have searched high and low online for solutions, sizing and info without yield. Does anyone know a way to solve this issue? Best description is:

Single speed hub
Removed single speed cassette
Replaced with 16 tooth cog
Everything goes on securely there
Two different lock rings, neither will thread the hub
Hub is too wide for Lock rings to fit: 1) All city 1.29" x 24 tpi left-hand thread 2)Avenir lock ring, same size
Hub set up: SE 36H Hubs w/ High-Profile Double-Wall Rims
Is there a specific size that would work?
Am I better off just putting together the money for a flip flop set up?

You're trying to squeeze a square peg into a round hole.

You need a hub with fixed threading - which consists of one set of threads for the cog and smaller, left-hand threaded set for the lockring - to use a track lockring.

Not that I consider this a good idea in the slightest but if you absolutely must try it out on a freewheel hub, you need a BB lockring from older style adjustable cup ones.

Doing more digging and finding suggestions for BB lockrings or even a ghetto Loctite remedy...

Do yourself a favor, drop the 40 bucks and get a cheap fixed gear wheel.

Yeah I agree with you guys, I'm finding only tragedy stories of BB's gone wrong... I think Ill just flip flop it

I am guessing you want to do a "Suicide Hub" conversion.

1. Clean hub threads thoroughly.
2. Apply Loctite RED to bottom-bracket lockring.
3. Tighten lockring with spanner tool.

This is only good advice if you never want to remove the cog.

It'll definitely come off, you just don't get to decide when... Figured that one out recently.

I've done many kms on a rotafixed suicide hub, but I used the brakes for stopping ... and invested in a fixed gear wheelset as soon as I could afford it.

I've also spun a suicide cog off, which is why I learned to rotafix :eek:

If you're going to use your legs for stopping, any suicide setup is just delaying the purchase of track wheels, using goops and glues just makes the delay expensive. In the meantime, rotafix is your friend.
