I've tried juicing -a two day fast. I never thought I could do it. It was GREAT! I had more energy than I thought I would. Sugar cravings went away and my concentration level went up. This is a wonderful way to cleanse.
I am still reading and learning more about it. I've decided to get an Omega 8001 Juicer. I've seen the 8002 model for 254.00, but I'm on a tight budget. It juices fruit, veggies, and it grinds meat, plus it juices wheat grass!
How exciting it that?
:p
I'm interested in any input from all you juicers out there.
Oh my! When I read that title, I thought for a moment you were talking about anabolic steriods! ;) As for juicing, I really WISH I liked it; but I don't. I can't stomach the thought of liquified vegetables. I HATE V-8 juice as well.
Sorry, not 'dissing' juicing - I think it's great, as you say. But personally, if I had to live on juicing, you'd be burying me. ;) ;)
My 50 dollar "Juiceman" juicer works just fine.

I hate v8 too, but fresh carrot juice w/o perservatives and fresh apple juice -wahoo! That stuff is yummy!
You should try some receipes before you decide it doesn't tast good because you have no idea what your missing!
A good place to start:
4-5 Carrots
Hand full of parsley
3-4 Celery Stauks
1/2 Sm. beet
Clean the veggies. Peal the carrots and the beet. Juice them all. Sip the juice slowly and remember to slosh (chew) the juice for proper digestion.
I'm going to be reading and learning more about juicing. I will post some of the tips/ tricks and recipes as I find them. For example, I've learned that it is unsafe to consume more than 32 OZS. per day as this may throw off the metabolism of your body.
I've also learned that fresh squeezed juice cannot be stored as long as other juices (no perservatives) so it should be consumed w/n 24 hrs. Otherwise, we need to discuss proper storage for longer refrigeration up to 6 days.

I love V-8. A pint every morning as soon as I wake up. I'm too lazy to make my own juice.
your blood pressure ok ? (salt)

The bad part about juicing is the miserable amount of cleanup required.
I clean mine BEFORE I drink the juice, otherwise it will be like cement to clean off

Actually my blood pressure always tends to be on the low side. I work out so much that the sodium content in V8 doesn't concern me. People who like V8 but are worried about the high sodium could always choose the low sodium version.

I clean before I drink, too. I have a 40.00 hamilton beech. I am excited about upgrading to the Omega 8001. I've heard about how easy it is to clean and how quietly it runs.
They say the Champion is awesome too.
I thought it was about drugs too.
Now I feel oddly let down......

I used to use a juicer but it took to damn long to clean. So now I just use store bought organic unfiltered juices and mix them in with whole fresh and frozen fruit, some yogurt, oat and wheatbran and I've got myself a smoothy with all the fiber that keeps you full longer. It is much easier for me though to get these juices cause I live in a hippy town with an organic supermarket. I thought this thread was about drugs as well though.

Ahhh Juicing,
Ive worked @ the Juice bar at health food stores for a few years, so i have some experience in this field.
As to cover what hasnt been answered,
if you want to preserve the juice for a few hours, citric acid from a fresh squeezed (only) lemon will preserve the juice but know that its always better to drink it slowly and straight from the juicer immediatley.
You dont need to spend 200$ + on a juicer. the 20$ ones are fine if its just for you (and perhaps 1 other).
Clean the juice extracting basket with a firm tooth brush and water before the beta carotene stains dry up.. if they do, then you have to use a brillo pad..
For health food stores, Santos is the industrial standard, its an 1800 dollar juicer used for high volume juicing.
My favorite for circulation and flavor is a Carrot apple Ginger (mass ginger (3-4" piece if you can take it)
with lemon ..
as for the green leafys (spinach, parsley, kale, watercress etc..) there isnt much juice in them, so i say its better and cheaper to just eat them raw. with the juice. And the correct way to clean leafys is to float them in water till all the dirt is gone.
(curly parsley is my fave)
When it comes to Wheatgrass, know that in one oz of juice is enough vitamins and minerals to cover you for the day when it comes to nutrients. BUT you cannot thow wheatgrass into a normal veggie juicer. it will waste it. you need a pulverising wheatgrass juicer, heres one..
http://www.discountjuicers.com/healthyjuicer.html
always buy it fresh, and if you dont feel like you want/need a WG juicer, you can just chew the grass (which is alot more sensible in my opinion) but you have to chew a nice 1 1/2" bundle.
other wise go to the healthfood store, pay the 1.75 for a shot.
Wheatgrass and raw alfalfa (or any fresh) sprouts are LOADED with everything.. every vitamin you need and then some.
if you have any questions id be happy to answer.
(chefs trick, cut the lemon in half, cut into the center of the exposed lemon and with the knife pointed at the juice, you can squeeze the juice down the knife into the juice! no lemon spatters, all in the juice, and lemon gives you the C and will cut the spice of any garlic or ginger you would add to the juice!)

I found this awesome web page about drugs, I mean juicing. :roflmao:
I will have to post the link of it on Monday...Sorry -my computer at home is down. If I get to the library, I will post it sooner.
Anyway, the site is all about juicing and the best juicers to use etc.
I juice to supplement my diet and also as a cleansing mechanism. You know, every once in awhile it pays to relieve the body of sugar cravings.
The site I write of points to a list of preferred books to read, yup, read.

ok all this talk of juicing made me go do an impulse buy.
BOught a GE Juicer. I told myself that if I use it on a regular basis I will buy something better that is more friendly towards green leafy veggies.
tonight I experiment!
I thought it was about drugs too.
Now I feel oddly let down......
Perhaps this will help..... take all the different drugs and put them in to a blender!

no, this was all from the top of my head.
if your composting, the leftover pulp is the finest compost you can get.
But still yes, it gets expensive..
Some people think theyre just better off cutting all the work involved and just taking a trip to the health food store for a juice. in fact I had a shot of wheatgrass today after my ride.. whew!
I still use my old Juice King crank orange juicer, nothin like fresh orange juice... in fact... :)

I enjoy it too. I have a juicer and my gf has made endless amounts of juice for me to try. They are all gross. Haven't found a mixture yet that appealed to my tastebuds like v8 or clamato.
