I have a wheelset on the way for the fixed gear I'm building, and I may replace the BB and crankset on this bike as well.
The BB's I'm looking at come in an array of sizes and I'm guessing it's possible to get one that would give me a perfectly straight or close-to chainline. How would I go about determining the right size BB?
Thanks

Check Sheldon Brown's web-site, also Park Tools site. Both go into enough detail that you should have no problem finding a solution! Good luck!

A quality crankset will have a recommend or included bottom bracket.

What crankset will you be using?

Well I'm hoping to use the crankset and BB that came on the bike, but I'm not sure how well it will line up, and I haven't counted the number of teeth on the gear. If it's not possible to use it then I was going to either scavenge around the bike co-op or find a cheap one online.
I was just wondering if you could calculate how the rear cog and crankset gear would line up.

If you measure the distance from on side of the bb shell to the chainring then subtract 34 you will know the spacing of that, then do basically the same for the cog, and if your measurements are good youll have a general idea
