I want to start recording some of my rides for youtube. I have limited money. I have seen some interesting things on my travel. Any suggestions?

Have a smart phone? You can use that it in a pinch.

Oh, wait... you wanted a helmet cam... my bad :o

But a smart phone can be used. I don't remember the exact set up, but a couple of years ago, a local weatherman did a metric century as part of the Tulsa Tough and his station streamed his feed in real time. And he used a smart phone attached to the bars.

Cheap option are the #808 cameras off eBay.
This site has all the info. http://www.chucklohr.com/808/index.shtml
Other options are mostly action/sports cameras. I have the ContourROAM.

The Contour Roam is a good choice if you can get it for $100. I used to have one.
The 808 is OK. The problem is that the battery life is very limited and it's not robust.

My initial response to your title was "Good....inexpensive....pick one." but the Roam is pretty good and $100 is a good deal for it.

I have been through about everything and wound up with a GoPro, but I have disposable income. The $200 price on the GoPro silver edition, in my mind, rules out anything else over $150. If I'm going to spend $150 or more on anything else, I'll kick in the extra few bucks for the GoPro.

Check out the Veho Muvi. Unbelievably small and works great.

You can pick up the Hero2 with the Wi-fi bacpac included at Costco for $199. My store sold out pretty quickly though.

the 2's have better battery life than the 3's and unless you're going to the 3 black there's not a world of difference. I have the original, a 2, and 2 Hero 3 blacks, the original is a bit dated, but the delta between the 2 and 3 isn't overly huge.

ebay 808 keychain HD cameras less than $30
will do the job I have 2 but I prefer the go pro cameras their almost bombproof will last a long time great mounting options/support more professional etc but again you get what you pay for its your choice

keychain cameras or dashboard cameras are common in some parts of europe and asia they use them to record while driving to have video proof when someone is at fault

i don't know if you saw recent news footage of Russian Aircraft that crashed recently in russia and parts of the aircraft went flying into the highway and an automobile with a camera captured the crash when it happened.

Nice Camera.

If you do get a video camera, ride normal and don't try to create a bike messenger movie. I was nearly hit last week by a guy wearing a GoPro camera. Let me tell you, that guy rode through traffic with total disregard to his own life! I was amazed at all the stupid moves he was doing just to make a movie. Don't be that guy!

Thanks for the advice guys. I used my Christmas and birthday money and purchased a gopro camera from REI. I am gonna try it out this month. Unfortunately REI also sold out of the gopro3 (like I had that much money) I got the basic camera.

I will check out Costco to see if they have anymore cameras. I think a lot of stores sold out due to the holidays.
