Great Lakes Rides and Events - Three Speed Ride: Algonac/Harsens Island, Michigan Spring 2013; Is There Interest

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am thinking about organizing a fun ride for three speed bicycles in the Algonac/Harsens Island, Michigan area this spring April/May. Mileage options range from 10 to 60. Route options include a run up to Algonac State Park. The route is flat and generally a shoreline ride.

This would be a non organized ride only for 3 speed hub bicycles. If you want to arrive in your vintage Raleigh in tweed or on your Murray, Ross, Schwinn, or other that is fine. I do encourage, but do not require, riders leave their spandex at home.

More details to follow but it will be similar to the LMB listed Algonac Chamber of Commerce October Color Tour Ride with a few changes.

Is there any interest.

Update 1/11/13: Planned date is currently 4/21/13

I was looking at the Lake Pepin English 3 speed ride but Minnesota is so far away. Now Michigan is like 4 hours. Count me in if you do it. My email is kbike85@hotmail.com thanks wardie

Wardie;

For me as well the Lake Pepin Ride is a long haul. I have not calculated the distance but would estimate it to be 8oo+ miles. I am still giving some serious thought to it though.

For those unfamiliar with the St Clair River delta area it has a long and interesting history. Harsens Island was a resort destination via steamships for the Detroit well-to-do long before the coming of roads to this area. Many early homes still exist on the island. There are large expanses of waterfowl refuge areas. Along the south channel freighters are seen.

That's great Wardie. I have one too but will probably ride my Raleigh, we'll see.

On another note; had a friend help me put together a website on weebly for this ride. There will be more to fill in but the event can be followed at www.scr3sptour.weebly.com
