Here's my Fuji Absolute 1.4. $650 from Performance Bike.
My old bike was a Univega Via Montega from the late 90s...Crome moly frame and forks, 21" seat post, 22.5" long top frame tube, 29 pounds
The Fuji Absolute 1.4 has an aluminum frame, carbon fork, 21" seat post, 23.5' long top frame tube, 24.5lbs, buck naked straight from the store.

The big difference you feel is just the general lightness and lack of mass with the new bike. Even changing directions doesn't require a push, really more of nudge to steer. I rode it 30 miles straight after picking it up. It didn't feel that much different at first, but then I'd frequently look at my GPS and see I was traveling at 20mph without much effort...Just putting out a mild effort and cruising along, my speed averaged 14.2mph, whereas with the old bike i would typically average around 11 or 12 mph.

The old bikes more massive steel frame helped damp out vibrations...this thing with an aluminum frame and carbon fork...HOLY SMOKES...I can feel every single bump, pebble, rough surface telepathically right through the frame. i was peddling on asphalt at first and i thought something was wrong with the crank bearings...but it was really just the asphalt surface i was feeling...once I got on concrete, I was feeling every expansion joint...BAM BAM BAM. The bike has nice grips, that can you can feel damp vibration, but the whole bike just seems more alive...maybe a little twitchy compared to the old one.

The extra length in the top frame tube also has me hunched over more than the old bike...not uncomfortably, just different.

I'm just a noob that's been riding for a little over a year, but I think if you are thinking of a Trek 7.3 or 7.4, (as I was) you owe it yourself to at least test drive one.:thumb:

Bike looks good, I like the new Absolute line since they changed the geometry to a slightly more upright position. Prior to 2011 or 2012 it was a true flat-bar road bike which I'm not a fan of. The key to getting a decent ride quality is not to run the tire pressure too high. The specs say the bike comes with 700x28 tires so, depending on your weight, I'd run 70-75psi front and 80-85psi rear (many bike shops over-inflate tires). Of course you can always install 700x32 or 700x35 tires inflated to a lower pressure to further improve the ride quality.

BTW, the bike looks so similar to the Trek FX line it wouldn't surprise me to find out it's built in the same factory. Trek's Asian built frames are supposedly manufactured for them by Giant.

Wow! The red looks real nice out in the real world. SoCal sunshine definitely helps too. I may have to wander into my local Performance store and check them out! Thanks for pics!

That red is a sweet color and it's not covered with Fuji decals on every surface. Very nice! I think Fuji bikes are great value for the money; Fuji is making a comeback. The weather looks sunny and warm in those pics. Congrats!

SWEET! I have both a Alum. and Steel hybrid so I know what you speak of, my Alum. bike is a bit mellower than your bike as it has a cro-mo fork but the Alum. frame does seem "more lively" and doesn't soak up the road vibes like the steel. I kinda thought the "carbon fibre" fork would do a bit better job of, "soaking up" the vibes, that's what everyone says?? I was going to get a carbon fibre replacment fork for my Jamis Allegro 1 but I might just leave the cro-mo fork on it. ENJOY! :)

77 miles on it in two days...I'm loving it....It was about 39F at 8am this morning...about 60F around noon...I used to live in Detroit, but I expected it to be cold there...I was layered up, and it was ok.

Dunbar is right about those tires, but they sure do roll nice at HP. 32s or 35s will make a world of difference in ride quality. A 37-40 (if it will fit) will make a HUGE difference in ride quality, but keep the 32-35 on the front for handling. While you are shopping for tires, give a little consideration to flat resistance. Many higher end tires have very decent flat protection, (thanks to modern textiles and ceramics) without the added bulk and slowness of ultra thick liners, and treads.

Funny, but the narrower tire on the front doesn't have as much input to ride quality, but that wide one on the back sure does make a difference. The narrower tire (32-35) on the front will make a big difference on the handling side of the equation, and quicken it as well.

Yeah, 28s feel hard and skinny, when you are used to fatter tires.

And, you can still pump them up to maximum (or even a little above) when you want them to roll extra fast and easy.

What???
Maybe in your neck of the woods, but elsewhere they are highly rated. There are even pro teams in Europe on them. My friend has this rocketship.
