What speed will you all be averaging. Wanna know if I'll be able to keep up. Maybe Friday am?

I thought tomorrow would be OK, but I have a couple conference calls in the AM that will be done around noon.

Does anyone have a route planned? If y'all want to come out toward Frederick, I know a couple nice routes there and around Brunswick I know even more routes but the hills here are bigger! ;)

Hills!
The ride is now on for Sunday,
he who suggests the best route wins...

im lazy, I propose the ncrr trail as previously planned.

I propose we do a 30-ish mile ride on Sunday, January 6 starting at 12:00 PM (noon) from Brunswick MD to Middletown MD over this route (http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/163203548). We'll meet at the Brunswick train station and ride north, stop and have a bite at either the c-store or The Main Cup in Middletown and then ride south. If we find we're too cold or are just not having fun, we can shorten the ride and head back sooner. I'll have cold beer, wine, egg-nog or hot drinks at my place when we're finished the ride. It'll afford y'all an opportunity to see how nicely a Sturmey-Archer FW 4-speed hub can perform compared to the multi-speed wonders so many folks ride these days!

How's that for a plan? :D

Sounds like one good route, especially since you can fall out of bed and on your bike!:p

Ellicot city sounds interesting to me...

lungimsam- how about a route offer from Ellicot city for us?
jeirvine, what is your thoughts.

photogravity

Here's another option for us. We could meet in Frederick at Utica Park and ride from there. It's less hilly and here's a bunch of cue sheets we can pick from that we can use as a springboard for planning. Remember, there won't be a warm place with beer, wine, eggnog or hot drinks at the end of the ride, so we'd have to figure out a place to go and warm up and hang out at the end.

No can do Sunday (have family stuff planned). Could do Saturday. If so, there is loop through Ellicott City that could be good:

There are options for food - either an Italian cafe on Edmondson or plenty of pubs in Ellicott City. About 12 miles. There are hills but they are gradual if you stick to the trolley trail and back-track instead of loop.

It's difficult to plan a ride with more then 2 people,
but if it works for photogravity, it will work for me,

jeirvine, if you want to go to Dallas's bicycle palace or Ellicot city for the ride I'm in,

I guess the plan would be to cycle to Ellicot city from your home, and then cycle back.
or I come down and we take the same car if you can hold 2 bikes.

I probably should have said this earlier, and even yesterday I still wasn't too sure, but I'm not able to make it Saturday. If you, slowtostart and lungimsam want to ride Sunday I'm in, but Saturday is a non-starter for me.

lungimsam, on a hilly ride like this, I'll usually do around 13-14 mph. When I'm with folks that want to lay back, I'll adjust speed accordingly. I don't drop folks when they ride with me. :)

Somebody better make a decision,

i just went through swapping the 5 speed Regina to a used ultra six ,
went for a ride and experienced chain hop as the chain was shagged, pulled into a LBS and convinced the guy in the workshop to slap on a used 10 speed chain from his scrap pile, it measured out perfect, so I rolled out of there for 15 bucks...

now I'm ready s, so photogravity get that spandex skin suit on cause I'm gonna kick your arse up those hills.

Not sure I can ride at all due to my icy fall. I'm going to the bike co-op tomorrow, Saturday, to help out there and then I'll try a short ride to "assess" the results of the fall in that area.

I know my wonderful husband would be happy to share the ride to Frederick if he knew a burger and beer were in store at that great pub downtown.

I would be delighted to take a ride (drive) to Towson as there is a Trader Joe's at that locale. What could make a ride more worthwhile than to shop for good food and meet a very distant C&Ver? Puch, when is your return booked? You will use that mud flap won't you?

In Brunswick there's a little restaurant called the Potomac Street Grill that has great burgers and beer on tap. The place is less than a 10 minute walk from my house and only about 2 minutes from the train station. Granted, it's not Frederick, but we can have drinks at my place afterward, fwiw. :) It's a good chance that if we do the ride from Brunswick, I'll pull out the Bilenky tandem (http://www.flickr.com/photos/threefamilyalbum/sets/72157630220825872/) and my better half will go on the ride too.

The Saturday Ellicott City ride will be slow and mellow. I'm coming off of two weeks of flu, then two weeks of holiday indulgence and lethargy. If anyone wants to join us around 1, just pm me.

I have had the proverbial offer that one must never refuse. I bravely disassembled my 1956 Sports in the near past. Tomorrow seems to be a very good day to be mentored by an Obe Wan Kenobi of vintage during its reassembly. I will, therefore, miss the ride to complete a project.

Enjoy! We'll be there in spirit.

As it turns out, tomorrow isn't going to for for me now. I worked yesterday and again today. I'm still not done work and probably won't be until after midnight, which has me way behind on stuff I needed to do around the house. Maybe next Saturday will work.

Sheesh, I am in the Baltimore area too. I got a mild cold, even without the cold, don't think I could have made this ride. But, I gotta say, this thread was a dynamite read!! :thumb: Just the talk of the different routes, terrian, etc, I could feel the wind, and the bike underneath me..

Gotta say thanks for the ride...

SUNDAYS RIDE...

Well my father ran me up to the PA line about and I started down the NCRR trail,
the weather was nice but unfortunatly there was snow in the shadows,
I jumped off the trail and went on york road heading south,
eventually the trail crossed york road.
well given the choice of nice paved hills or slight lowering elevation and snow patched trail I made the choice and went back on the trail,
it was far nicer now and almost no snow.
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f394/rivieraproject/bicycles/usa/IMG_1458.jpg

I continued down the trail, the further I traveled, the more people I met, even an older woman with a gitane that needed a lot of service.

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f394/rivieraproject/bicycles/usa/IMG_1459.jpg

at the end I was amazed i completed the trip in such little time, i was no in a hurry, it was a fine ride.
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f394/rivieraproject/bicycles/usa/IMG_1460.jpg
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f394/rivieraproject/bicycles/usa/IMG_1461.jpg

but of course all cyclists need a meal and well, I found exactly what i was craving in timonium
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f394/rivieraproject/bicycles/usa/IMG_1462.jpg

back on york I continued south back to towson.
for some reason there was a magnetic force pulling me into the dunken donuts....:D
I ordered a box of munchkins and a lovely woman walked in the door and said
"thats what I should be doing...riding a bike! "
so a conversation was struck over some java.
sombody stole her bike and she is currently bikeless...., she also needs a biking partner...
:pI said I will help her find a replacement of these things that fits her wishes...
She was quite quick to hand me her contacts,
She lives only around the block from my parents house where I am staying....
Well we broke down my bike, fit it in her honda and she drove me home(the last 3 miles)

I need to find her a bike ASAP!!!!!

DALLAS!!! call me !!!
your wifes 8 speed might be exactly what I need to continue this story.....
I can come get it tonight!!!

That really likes like a nice route and is definitely something that I have got to do this year. As far as the Linus, that's really not available since that's her bike. I do, however, have a neat little 1968 Raleigh Sprite that would probably fit the bill nicely. ;)
