Classic & Vintage - Could you help me ID this frame? (It'd be miyata.)

My friend gave me an old frame last two weeks. He told me it should be miyata frame but not sure what exactly model it is. I 've try to ID it myself but no answer. It's very close to the 1400a but this chainstay is steel. Still no conclusion,help me.

Here are some information:
Aluminum three main tubes
Cr-mo chainstay and dropout
Fork seems not an original
Tange CD levin headset
Come with serial NZ07125 at the bottom of BB

I'm not sure if that is a Miyata. Your serial # would suggest it to be an '85 and I didn't see a frame from that year that looks like yours. That said there are people that are much more knowledgeable about this kind of stuff and I would take their opinion over mine in a hot minute. Good luck!

It could be an earlier model, like 86-87 AlumiTech, as they had CroMo chainstays and dropouts. The later models like I ride are all-aluminum except for the alloy fork.

I think these are great riders. They're quick, agile, and stiff, yet give a very comfortable ride. What are your plans for her?

Could it be a frame that Miyata send to EU or USA? May be Univega?

I could be wrong, but I don't think Univega had a bonded aluminum frame model.

Google "Miyata catalogs". there are some great catalogs there that can help you...

Sure does have all the signs of an Alumitech frame. Right lugs, steel rearend, even the fork would be correct for a 6500.

Assuming it was a Miyata manufactured frame, this would be a 1986 model manufactured during the last fortnight of 1985. At that time there were no aluminum frames in the either Miyata's North American or Eurpoean catalogs. In fact, Miyata's first aluminum frame (late 1986 model) was welded. The bonded frames were introduced even later. I'd appreciate a good photo of the seat lug.

In the very late 1980s, Univega had bonded frames with aluminum main tubes and steel rear traingles, They were not made by Miyata, but a Taiwanese company.

The chrome chain banger plate dates the bike as mid 80s likely 83/84.

Yeah, I noticed that also.

I believe all the AlumiTechs had internal cabling up until the 1400. They finally changed it because of cracks in the aluminum where the cables entered the tube. I'm still guessing this is a Miyata, and it might just be a later 1400. The head tube, especially where the head badge would go looks exactly like mine and the seat stays are also a match. I will have to check mine with a magnet to see if my chain stays are steel. The catalog says my bike should all-aluminum, except for the alloy fork, but who knows, mine is also all pearl white, and the catalog doesn't show that it ever came in that color even though all of the 1400A's I've ever seen are all-white. Your is a re-paint, right?

No, It's just an aluminium sticker. My friend just try to decor it like Koga frame
