Classic & Vintage - 1965 Schwinn Super Sport. Done.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well its all I'm doing to it anyways! I never do complete restos, just not my thing.
Took pics with and without flash. I repacked all the bearings, new cables and housing,
new tires and tubes, and cleaned her up. Let me know what you guys think. I forgot to
Polish the wheels and hubs and I forgot to clean the chain! :o but its cool 'cause I havn't ridden it yet.

I'm hoping the color I get for the Volare turns out close to this which is nearly the color the bike originally was from the factory.
Nice job

Now that is a sweet thing, ILB! - Must have been a garage queen for nigh on to 5 decades!

Yowza! She has turned out super nice. Since you haven't rode it yet, I'll be interested to hear what you think of her. :)
WRT color, is this more orange gold than yellow gold? The earlier pictures you posted gave me the impression it was a more yellowish than this.

Love the water bottle holder! Don't know how durable it looks though.

Been in use for 'round 48 years, does that say anything about durability? ;)

Thanks! If it rides anything like my other Schwinns I'll be very happy! :) The paints a lot more like an orange gold. Official Schwinn name is "Radiant Coppertone." http://schwinncruisers.com/catalogs/1965.html
Wow. So you were the one who beat me on the auction for that cage? Kidding, lol.
I like that it has a real derailer hanger! Those red-dot levers are pretty rare, are those original hoods too?
And how's she ride???

Haha! I've owned the Schwinn Sprint water cage for like 10 years now, it was given to me by a LBS owner. The hoods were on the bike when I got it but can't say for sure if they are orig to the bike. There are a few knowledgable guys here on the forum, maybe one of 'em will chime in for the answer to your question. I havn't ridden her yet so I don't know.

I love the look of the pre-67 Varsities, Continentals and Super Sports so much better than the ones with the giant dork discs and chainguards.
Very nicely done!

Thanks! Heres a question, (to all) would I be right in saying the Super Sport was one below the Paramount in 1965?

Beautiful job. It almost looks NOS. That's unreal for the age of that bike. Congrats!

ILB - A really great score. I'd like to see more of a glamor shot of this bike (without the furniture and shoes and stuff.) You really ought to show it to greater advantage, because it is as classic a bike as any ever posted in this forum.
PS- If you can't use the Grand Canyon as a backdrop, use a brick wall or garage door. (Brick walls and doors are good because they'll never steal the show from a bike.)

I like to shoot that way, too. The flash flattens everything, metalic paint, too. I do use flash in the daylight sometimes, though to get a little more sparkle on the chrome.

Thanks man. Your kind words really mean a lot to me. ('cept the parts about the furniture and the shoes! LOL!) I plan a short ride tomorrow, if I find a brick wall I'll take a few "glamor shots."

Even though I do not believe it is correct I like the white handlebar tape. It gives it a real vintage look.

Here's mine which still has the original tape but I too like the white. Beautiful bike ILB! If you take those glamor shots get a close one of the head badge for me. Mine is very worn bad enough I can't tell what it is supposed to look like. I finished mine late last fall and never got a chance for anything other than a brief test ride. Anxious to try in the spring but I don't think I will be keeping it because it is a size to small for me. I wish I had your size frame.
