Classic & Vintage - Any Cape or Northeast forumites want to have a swap meet?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I've got 3 egg crates full of parts I don't want in my garage! Would love to swap them into a cheap bike or nice set of wheels or new tires. Lots of good parts to use for flips or personal builds. Anyone else interested in meeting up with a pile of goods?
I have a couple kicking around, An old Raleigh Olympian I was going to use for parts as its a tall one and a Fuji S10-S
In Milford MA. The Raliegh is a 25 (63.5) and the fuji is around 23 (58)
A little big for me so I'll pass but bring them to the swap if we have it. I'd also be interested in a trimmed Brooks Pro.

I might be interested in a swap meet with no prior commitment to swap or purchase anything. Trouble is, I don't have too many things to give up and don't need much that much stuff that I know of. Of course if I see something I might realize I need it. :)
Time is short at the moment. Or to put it more accurately, scheduling opportunities are tight. You got any plans nailed down?

I live in the area Harlan, but, similar situation as Jim's. Don't have anything to trade and don't really need anything. Always interested in minty Nuovo Record parts, however. :)

I'm with Jim and Rootboy, at least we should think and plan a spring ride. I'll be back on the Cape by the end of May. We could do a swap meet right in the parking lot at the CCRT!

Sounds great to me! I'll have my build done by then so the gf and I can both roll on vintage bikes.
Also I got organized in my new garage and found that all my spare parts fit in one milk crate (thank god!) though all the bars are jumping out. I now have a heated shop with pegboard and shelf space for parts. Coming from no shop to this, I'm sooo happy.
All I need now is a city bike rack to line up all the bikes instead of leaning them on the wall.

I like the idea of a swap meet before a CCRT ride. Early May?
Harlan, I see an interesting-looking tandem there. Maybe not C&V though.
I never need an excuse for a CCRT ride. Patriot's Day, Early May, Memorial Day, whenever. I just need two weeks notice. AND I could bring a truckload of untouched project bikes, several buckets of parts, and a few wheelsets. Nothing sexy, but lots of useful.
Harlan, you're WAY too organized! And ceiling hooks are the answer to bike storage.

Maybe we can get a lot of wool jerseys going as well like, L'Eroica. It will be the Cape Cod version.

Hey Scott. You say Cape bound "end of May". Do you happen to know your dates yet?

i could be in... piles of parts and bikes to sell and trade.
Also, There will be a winter swap in Dudley MA in a heated (more or less) factory building alongside the Dudley-Do-Right Flea Market, usually happens around Valentines Day. Not much for Lightweight stuff generally, but if we all converge on it, it could be a good meet! Mike has them 3 or 4 times a year, so it would be great to get more C&V stuff represented there. I'll have some relly good stuff there.

Not yet, we'll look ahead a few weeks to see if we can catch a warmish one to open the houses up. And for this ride I don't need to stay down for the weekend, I can go back and forth no problem. So they're all good.

Mesh gloves? Leather/hairnet helmets? I'm good to go, I've already crashed enough on that trail, odds are in my favor.
Scott
I also don't really have anything for a swap meet, but might be up for a ride.
For better or worse, all my cycling togs started off in a chemical plant, though.

We'd surely be up for a CCRT ride, time permitting. Scott, it's about time you got to see that tandem in person.

Never crashed on the trail but one of the parking lots was a little dodgy......

I agree, that went to the best home possible. Ever think of getting Peugeot decals for that?

Maybe we could theme this ride:

Alex - Nice looking garage, I'm jealous. What is that drop bar disc equipped bike? I don't think I have seen it before. Did you replace the Cannondale with a Spesh and go back to Shi(t)mano? Nice looking Burley too...

I don't have a bike bought from Scott in a parking lot, but I think I do have some random vintage parts that were given to me by Scott in a parking lot...
I can't commit this far in advance, but I would love to come for a ride and to give/trade some parts away. Ideally my lady will come too and we will ride the vintage BB tandem.

I will do my best to participate. Maybe even take a Sunday off. :)
Rev, if you can make it I'll present you with a bucket of freewheels!

Hey thanks, that drop bar disc-er is my commuter/dog runner. It's a Giant Seek that I threw Salsa short-n-shallow bars and Ultegra bar ends on with Cane Creek linear pull drop bar levers. I ride it every day with my dog, sometimes twice.
That Specialized is my GF's, I log a lot of miles on the Fatback this time of year. I sold the Cdale and bought the Burley, I now ride the Vitus and will be on my mystery Italian when it's done. Still need to redo the stoker position on the tandem and cable it. Can't wait to see your tandem. What did you end up doing with the braking?

Running original Phil Wood discs with the rear set up to a friction thumb shifter as a drag and a dual pivot caliper on the front. All three controlled by the captain. We only got a few rides in before the cold, but it worked well. I had my dad get a couple 1/8" mild steel plates cut with the water-jet out in the shop at his work to sandwich the seatstays and allow a long-reach recessed nut caliper to be used. I haven't cabled it yet but it should work fine.

Most of my friends probably consider me vintage. It's strange though, they don't appear vintage to me.
That's because they always see you with a much younger woman.

Top, I'll try to do my best to bring some non-vintage women on vintage bikes as well.
Scott
It's coming up on the beginning of March, not too early to plan.
I like to do a season opener on the CCRT on the Patriot's Day holiday. Last year Jim Muller and his wife and buddy joined up for a great ride. Maybe we could do this 20 April or thereabouts?

Top, Sharon and I sure did enjoy the ride with you and my co-worker Eric last year. We'd love to do another like that. Now Eric has a new, well new to him, Motobecane Grand Jubilee so he'd be faster and would probably be interested in coming too. However...
Alas, April 20 is the one day in April we cannot make. We have a show in Brockton (the Javawocky Coffeehouse) that night. We could ride on Sunday though we'd likely be tired from the late night. Any other day in April would be great. Bring it on!
Hence my posting now. Let's find a day that works for all interested parties.

As you know, Sundays are out for me. Late April Saturdays sounds great. I'd come down on a Friday evening and then would need to leave by no later than 5:00-6:00 on Saturday. Another possibility for me would be Memorial Day (itself).

Ouch, the Cape Cod Rail Trail on Memorial Day weekend. The long weekend in April is good for me, Saturday is better than Sunday for Pastor Bob so I''ll second that. We want Jim to come so let's scratch Monday of the list?
Scott
Any time anyone wants to do a ride out of Gloucester, around Cape Ann or whatever, just let me know. We can always do a meet up / mini swap at the shop here! Plenty of parking and T accessible!

Always welcome. I'm about two hours NNW from Belfast and work in Augusta.
If you do visit bring that Nishiki from the Centurion thread with you. Looks my size and i don't have one in the fleet. I'm sure we could do a deal.

PHT (and ScottRyder), we'd love to do a Gloucester/Cape Ann ride any time. It's a lot closer than Cape Cod too. We're just waiting for the roads to clear a bit more. Perhaps we'll take the tandem out this Sunday. (Have a show on Saturday and the weather looks to be less ideal anyway.)
A CCRT run is always good, any day except the aforementioned Apr 20. But I agree with ScottRyder, going to CC on Memorial Day weekend may not be the smartest move.
