Classic & Vintage - Shakedown ride - Motobecane Gran Jubile

I picked up this frame set last year (to replace the 25", which was too big), and finally finished building it up with parts on hand. She only got a quick neighborhood jaunt today, but feels pretty nice. I've been bad about riding through the holidays but, if weather permits, intend to get back in the saddle in January....

How do you like the front bag? What is it and how does it mount/detach?

Really nice. You have the real deal Jublie, Nervex lugs, 531, TA chainrings, Jubile rd. I recently got a 1978 Grand Jublie, not as nice as the older ones like yours, I think 75-76 was the year they changed to Vitus tubing, Suntour/Sugino drive train.

Another superb example of why we love French bikes so much! Moto's from this period especially are just so elegant, with such lovely detailing.

PS- Take especial care of that ultra light Jubile rear derailleur - they've become almost as scarce and expensive as they are beautiful.

Moto for all praictical purposes whent Bankrupt in 75 early 76 intruduced the new models with Suntour gearing with cheaper pricing in attempts to save the company.

Thanks all! I'll stack the ride, looks, and mojo of these older Motobecanes against most anything. I picked up the bag and decaleur at a swap last year. The bag is unmarked but is aTA clone. The rack is an unmarked Japanese steel number. Nice, but heavy. Looking forward to some nice rides...

Nice Moto build there, it looks to be very well detailed and done right on your part. I Like those fenders, and as said the bag, too. Makes things look business like yet elegant.

I have a similar '72 just powdercoated silver waiting for the weather to warm up so I can spray the red details and add new decals from cyclomondo on ebay. Also just got a similar Grand Record frame (silver with black), though honestly the Jubilee seems nicer made.

Not contesting that, but I don't think any performance or functionality was sacrificed with the changes. Certainly the European equipment commands a little more nostalgic admiration than the Japanese replacements.

simple and refined. the bag, saddle and fenders set it off. and a great photo.

Very nicely appointed. The pedals, triple crank, long cage Huret, bag, fenders, its got all the french goodness. Saddle too.
My first ten speed came with a Ideale 90. Paid $125 for that bike. Wish I still had the saddle.

I have the same frame, this build up makes me rethink the concept of just slapping on black fenders. It looks good.

That is really beautiful. I am burning with jealousy over here! I like the handle bar tape a little dirty looking, I mean that in a very positive way.

I've always had a weakness for 70's French bikes. That's just gorgeous! I really like the silver and red - so classy. What year is it?

Indeed a beauty. I've got a '74 JG and I really like it. A true classic with all the French components. Yours is a '75 with the long-cage RD.

Are you supporting the bag with only a decaleur and no rack or am I missing it in the photo?

I'm in Thailand at the moment, or else I'd post a photo of the front rack. It's a one piece, solid steel front rack that came with the bag. Heavy as heck, but feels really strong. Made in Japan, but no other markings.

I picked up the frame on its own, so am not positive if it's a 75 or 74.

I inherited the bars, stem, levers, from another build, and left the tape and twine just like she was....

Can't wait for Spring!

I agree with all the compliments here. Really good looking.

I had a couple of Motobecanes, and the way they were built, they handled BETTER when there was some weight on the front. It's a French thing.
