Fifty Plus (50+) - Show us your winter rides.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Knowing that there are two hemispheres, I'm asking folks to show us the bike you ride in the winter (regardless of when that is for you). Mine is one made from a Nashbar commuter frame and parts left over from other projects. The thing that makes it my winter ride is the fenders, bar end shifters (much easier to use when wearing "lobster" gloves), and studded Nokkian tires.
Oh, and I realize those in warm weather are likely to post rides that don't require equipment able to deal with snow, ice, rain, etc. But that's OK. Post them anyway. :)

Mine is the pinnie and this was bought as my N+1 for retirement. Just the Cheaper Uno FP with Tiagra. Rides OK but not as good as the other two I have but it does save wearing out the better bikes. The other bike is my neighbours Forme that he bought a year ago and this is his winter- summer-snow- rain-mud and anything else he can throw at it.

Where is the bike with the IGH? It looked ideal for winter use.

Hadn't noticed but may have been soon after getting it.
And IGH? Presume it is one of these.

I Do have a Nexus hybrid as a beater but I use that for local rides into town but it is not for Daily use- just for short trips and shopping.

Everyone's seen this one of me and my 2006 Trek Portland. This is from the winter of 2007-2008.

Someday I'll get a new camera. Mr. Portland now sports much better wheels with a dynohub up front, better lights, nicer fenders, and nicer panniers. Same studded snow tires. Seventh season now.
My old Epic is my winter ride. Tricross when the roads permit.

A foot-and-a-half of snow here so winter riding got moved indoors. My trusty yard sale special . . .

I ride this one year-round, Titanium cross bike with a carbon fork. It usually sports full coverage fenders - they typically come off July to mid-October.

I have three winter bikes...since winter is three times longer than summer, I guess. Here I am with my pugsley. I just posted a short vid in the Winter bike forum of road biking. Horribly boring. I don't get hit by a car but I do blather on about heart rate and some other nonsense at

My winter ride this year is an old '98 Norco Cherokee rescued from a junk pickup. I knew the lady who bought it but her son had trashed the seat and the seatpost was bent. The freewheel was sticking and tossing the chain. $19 dollars and some prts bin stuff and it works pretty OK.

This actually my general utility bike -- for rain and other slop. I don't know where the rear trunk is. I almost always have it on -- especially in cooler weather as it's great for carrying extra / unused layers.
I just put on a set of Kenda Kross Supreme tires but wish I had put on some studs instead. Maybe next winter.
... I love those fenders... They really make a difference when I gets wet and sloppy.

I am seriously considering them, I have a gift card from one of the LBS and they have the racer fenders that have the mounts attached to them, for bikes like my CAAD. Going to see some Monday, I hate skunk stripes on my kit.

A few months ago I was out on a rainy day and passed a group of 4 other riders. As I went by, one of the women shouted, "How are you keeping your jersey so clean?" Before I could respond, one of the men in the group said, "He's smart enough to have fenders." The woman replied, "I see now Paul. Why don't we have fenders." I couldn't hear his response, as I was too far away.

I actually bought this bike last September so I could keep riding when things got a little messy. But, with the new tires, it's doing even better than I had hoped.
The manager at my LBS had been singing the praises of riding in fresh snow. I was a little skeptical -- but today I found out that (as usual) he was right! This was fun!

My dirty bike before today's ride, after riding through ice, snow, salt, water and salt water yesterday.
295670
We finally got some much desired snow. I'd forgotten so much. As I rode trough the fresh snow, I suddenly noticed how quiet everything was. The frying sound of the studs had stopped. "How could I have forgotten this?", I thought. I passed a large flock of Canada Geese swimming in Four Mile Run. Some had snow on their backs -- they must have slept out there on the water. I'd never known that.
On the way home, the almost-full moon lit up the white world around me. The studs fell silent again as I turned onto the last three miles of the trip. I saw the geese bobbing far out in the water, softly honking to one another.
This is what winter should be.

It was horrible today! I started my ride with sunshine and in the mid 60s and ended my metric century with the temps at a horrific 72ºF. Sorry, couldn't resist.
Don't worry, I'll be riding in the 20s again soon.

Yeh... I couldn't believe Trek painted their top-of-the-line DS primer grey (although they called it "Titanite")... But, I liked the bike so I bought it anyway.
And, the more I ride it, the more I like it.
Fortunately, the color is growing on me.
... But I still can't believe Trek painted a $1,200 bike primer grey!

I haven't ridden through the winter since I was at the University of Colorado 40 years ago. The Mule changed all that by bringing the fun back into winter riding.

Fenders are a pretty tight fit on this, but the work. I had these fenders from a previous bike. If I were to get new ones, longer fenders or mudflaps would be a must. These do not keep the spray off of my feet(better than nothing though).
