Fifty Plus (50+) - It tastes like Gatorade with WAY too much Salt

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I don't know what was worse-the last 25 miles of Saturday's ride or the preparation for today's 50+ examination. My goodness I just can't tolerate the stuff they give you to drink to clean our your innards. And the fact this time I had to drink 1/2 of it last night and then get up this morning at 4:30 am and drink the other half was just inhumane!!
I was supposed to have both an endoscopy (checking out the upper half) and then a colonoscopy. When I got there apparently there was a mix-up and they only had me scheduled for the latter. I pleaded my case as I REALLY did not want to do the prep again for several years so while they had me under they did both......at least that what they told me. I'm on the 5 year plan due to a history of polyps and reflux issues.
I had not slept well the past few nights so getting knocked out was very restful!!
They told me no driving or work for the rest of the day. I asked about riding my bike and they just rolled their eyes....
(With the number of polyps I've had I probably wouldn't be around to type this if I didn't have the checkups. Thanks goodness for preventative medicine)

Glad you got them out of the way, they never allow me to have both tests done on the same day. I asked each time, answer was no each time, no idea why. I have had both without being knocked out a couple of times, not so bad.

Endoscopies and colonoscopies are a popular recurring topic here in 50+. I vote for a sticky.
Prep for an upper GI endoscopy is not nearly as much fun as prep for a colonoscopy.
That's trying to lose those last ten pounds the HARD way:D

Quite frankly i thought it was the most humiliating thing i've done.Striping down wearing a hospital gown with the back open having my rear exposed and seeing other exposed rears was too much.Half the people had no idea how to tie up the rear of the gown including me.The nurses just let everyone walk around like this.Give me a break.I had this done at a surgical center. That means a place that looks like an office building but performs colonoscopys faster than Bayer manufactures an asprin.I guess if something goes wrong they call an ambulance and take you to a real hospital.Give me the old days!We used to have 3 thats right THREE hospitals in town.now we have 1.The only people who speak english are the intake clerks who try to figure out who and how one is paying for the stay.I brought my 85 year old mother to this hospital they placed her on a gurney in a hallway for 5 hours untill a bed was available. We arrived and found blood all over the room.I told them this was unacceptable. They cleaned the room after another 2 hours.Had to rant! Our medical system is in trouble.

But, all in all, the fun of a colonoscopy is much better to undergo than learning to take care of a bag on the belly or worse.

Joe,
It is worse to have to drink it all in one sitting. The half and half plan is less heckish IMO. Five year plan guy here too.

I've had two colonoscopies and numerous endoscopies for various things.
I've got another year before my next colonoscopy thankfully :)
A minor inconvenience as part of a much larger indignity one must suffer. ;)
It took me 7 hours to choke down the gallon of glop. It took me 10 minutes to drink 8 ounces, then I'd have to stop to wait for the urge to vomit to pass, then start sippin' again.
One polyp removed, of the benign kind so I'm off the hook for 10 years.
