View Full Version : Strage Cross Check
Well the green Cross Check I just ordered from AEbikes just came in and I noticed something strange. It has downtube shifter braze ons. Oh well it was on sale for $280 and now I know why. Not a big deal I will just get some cable stops but certainly caught me off gaurd. Anyway just felt like mentioning it. They still have a few frames sizes left on sale.
The funny thing is I may just use downtube shifter since this is going to be my commute and around town bike anyway.

I'm confused- what else did you expect? I think that's pretty standard for road type bikes?

Yep, I saw that too. My old Surly had cable stops instead of shifter bosses. The green frames also have extra rack/fender eyelets. All other Cross Checks I've seen have cable stops. I wonder if that is why they are selling them cheap.

Matt, depending on where they put the cable stops, the down tube shifter braze-ons may work better. They're usually situated farther down on the downtube and prevents interference with the brake cable/straddle wire when making tight turns.
This in particular was a problem on Jamis Nova's, which had cable stops located on the head tube.

oh! now I understand. I saw cable stops the other day on a bianchi and was surprised. the cable stops are probably a little cheaper to use?
My red '05 cross check has down tube-mounted cable stops. I use STI/ergo-style shifters anyway, so it really makes no difference to me.
