like Jethro said.

I'm finding it harder and harder to go straight home.
My sunday ride home starts around 2:30 am. Last Sunday I got home around 4:20 am.
It's only a 5 mile ride, but as I come closer to home I start drifting down quiet side streets.
Maybe a spin down to the waterfront, the moons my lamp, the dark nights my sanctuary.
The city is so quiet and peacefull, broken glass on the road sparkling like diamonds under the streetlamps.

I enjoy cycling so much, I put myself out.
Last Sunday I had to be up @ 8:30 am.
Only 4 hrs sleep, I was pretty tired, -but very satisfied I had stolen time to ride.

Riding for me is more than commuting or exercise..it's an adventure sport and my pastime..
I ride offroad bikes mostly, but even on the road I amuse myself, bunnyhopping, riding curb edges, kicking off anything that will give me a little air.

I like riding empty streets, carving corners at high speed -feeling my tires run off the contact patch, seeing how fast and low I can go.
I think I'll start racing XC this year, I'll be 40 years old...and I'm still learning how to ride a bike well.

I'm finding it hard to ride in a straight line anymore,........I take the long way home.

I sometimes hum this tune........

Cos you’re the joke of the neighborhood
Why should you care if you’re feeling good
Take the long way home
Take the long way home

But there are times that you feel you’re part of the scenery
All the greenery is comin’ down, boy
And then your wife seems to think you’re part of the
Furniture oh, it’s peculiar, she used to be so nice.

When lonely days turn to lonely nights
You take a trip to the city lights
And take the long way home
Take the long way home........

Jeff,

We've had such amazing weather this week, up until today. I've been doing the same as you. I've been doing a lap around James Bay, down Dallas road over King George Terrace, and back down Dallas to make my fave speed turn in town. Dallas Road right turn onto Cook. I can hum around that corner on my road bike at near 40km/h and get real nice and low. I hope the weekend weather comes back up, i really feel like doing an urban assault on my fat tire bike.

Almost poetic your words were.

What a nice description. It makes me want to go for a ride tonight. That's exactly how it is. It's almost like you are the only person alive sometimes at night.

This photo is after midnight. That is the moon in the sky.

Pretty cool lyrics, and a catchy tune

Bloodhoung Gang - Take the long way home

Did you ever read Voltaire's "Candide?"
He says live life at Benny Hill freak out speed
Not a quote of what he wrote but a paraphrase
Make it up as you go Keyser Soze
Highlights yes but don't underline 'em
Just live for N.O.W. like Gloria Steinem
Life is like Marion Berry
It's not all that it's cracked up to be
Like Fred Sanford when the big one comes
Find the meaning of life is there is none
It's twenty-four hours when you call it a day
Be Frank and say I did it "My Way"
Don't give a Flying Nun no don't give a Gidget
Just have more fun than a well-oiled midget
If life were picture perfect you could frame it
But the world is a diaper so let someone else change it

Life is an aimless drive that ya take alone
Might as well enjoy the ride take the long way home

All born equal unless you're Canadian
Then halfway through decay like Uranium
You define what's death defying
Get the most out of life or at the least die trying
Are you Evil Knievel jumpin' a train?
Or runnin' with scissors like Frasier Crane?
Have really good times doin' really bad things
'Cause the show ain't over 'til the fat lady sings
Like Elton John with his "Candle In The Wind"
It's hard to blow out a flame as big as him
But we've all got to Wang Chung with the Grim Reaper
Whether you're Einstein whether you're Beaker
Death is certain so it's definitely worth flirtin'
Don't expect a bright light no just curtains
Life is like a penis most people don't know it
But most people suck so they usually blow it

Life is an aimless drive that ya take alone
Might as well enjoy the ride take the long way home

Life is an aimless drive that ya take alone
Might as well enjoy the ride take the long way home

Why, I believe you're right!
I always kinda hated Supertramp, the guys voice sounds like he's whining.
Jethro Tull was kinda cool, except that Aqualung song...can live happy without hearing that ever again.

I must be getting senile, mixing up old rock tunes.
Next it's anti-oxidants and prostate exams  ...I'm too young to be ancient!

One thing that I love about night cycling is....do you remember your first night ride as a youth?
It seemed you were going so much faster than cycling in the daylight.
Like how a new set of sneakers made you run faster.

I feel that exact sensation I did when young, riding at night still.

Young, fast, free..not a care in the world, pondering lifes direction.
Seeing a gently twisting road dissapearing into the dawn of an uncertain future.

And i'm riding a bike down that road.

That's allright... Tull was da bomb, man. And I liked Aqualung, though. It was such a cool start to the song. Sick, but cool. ;)

This thread reminds me of a great bumpersticker I saw:

Ya it's a bit chilly out there. I'm staying in tonight because I'm a wimp and there's beer in my fridge.

They say there are 3 sure signs of old age. One is loss of memory....

I forget what the other two are.
