Hey guys, does this look like a good deal to convert into a fixed gear? Would probably negotiate on the price, but wanted some feedback first.

It is a prime canidate for a conversion, but why? That bike is really nice. Keep it geared.

Really enjoy the fixed gear feel; yet, will test it out and if geared works for me then that's how it will stay. Don't really know allot about the maintenance of a geared road bike, but will definitely learn if that's what I decide to do.

He is asking $200 for it, seems like a fair price. What you guys think??

Im so sick and tired of people saying "dont convert, its to nice, bla bla bla". This is a SINGLE SPEED AND FIXED GEAR FORUM.
its a bike that was made to be ridden whether its geared or single speed/fixed.

i have a centurion elite rs i shall be converting soon.

Convert it, but keep yo extra parts.

Yup, seems like a lot of extras to buy when you don't need any of the fiddly bits. The C&V for sale subforum might be able to help you recoup some of the $200.

It will be a fine bike any way you choose to ride it. Unless you do some jackass stuff.

$200 is a solid deal. Can't hurt to try and go lower though!

And don't cut anything off. Just remove whatever needs to be taken off/can be taken off to finish the conversion. Eventually you'll probably want to gear it back up.

If you convert it, leave the bosses and guides on it

Finally pulled the trigger on the bike guys. Let me tell you, bike looks great. Easy an 8/10, but don't really know the condition of other similar bikes out there. Kind of leaning towards leaving it geared, and just buy an inexpensive fixed gear bike to throw around and have fun. This is my first geared road bike

These are some of the components it came with (not sure if they are factory or not):

Kusuki winpista drop bars

Shimano ultegra 105 crank and shiftingsystem

Ritchey saddle

Mavic reflex wheels with shimano 600hubs

Shimano brakes

Bontrager tires

Centurion lemans rs frame and fork

Edit: saddle has 2 small tears (might change it), pedals are resin so defiantly changing that.

If you post this in Classic and Vintage, they will have a better idea.

Ultegra is the second nicest thing Shimano makes.

105 is slightly lower than Ultegra, still very very very nice.

If the saddle fits your body it is perfect, if it doesn't fit it is garbage. That is the only way to judge a saddle.

600 is the same as Ultegra.

Mavic reflex turned into their open pro later. Nice but nothing special.

Is the shifting indexed? (it clicks into gear instead of you kind of having to search for the gear)

If that thing has an indexed ultegra / 105 group on it I would love to put it on my Raleigh. Too bad I don't have funds atm.

GENESTARWIND

my centurion has shimano 600 groupset. the system is index or friction with a twist of metal tab on the right thumb shifter.

Is the shifting indexed? (it clicks into gear instead of you kind of having to search for the gear)

the seller said it had 8speed barcons so I would assume yes it's indexed

the fact it's got 8 speeds suggest it's been upgraded a little.. pretty sure that bike originally came with 6 speeds.. possibly 7 at the most

RobbieTunes

It's been upgraded because it's an excellent frame with which to do so, and will ride just fine as is.
Do what you want with it, it's an excellent platform for almost any configuration. Tange 2 is nothing to sneeze at, tube-wise.
Appears even those on the SS/Fixed forum feel the same about converting.a

Have fun.

Yes, seems to be indexed from what I have been researching. Very exited with the bike, and will probably take it out today for a ride (great weather). Thanks to all that have posted.
