Hi everyone.

I'm new here. :)

Ok, I'm thinking of going on a short tour. Something like 2 weeks max, mainly on-road cycling. I plan to use my present GT Aggressor. I think it's a 01 model. Plan to use racks / panniers combo, as I don't think trailers are available in asis. Not that I know of anyway. ;p

So, does anyone have any good affordable sturdy racks to recommend. My GT frame doesn't have those rack mountin holes near the rear axle. I think they are called "Braze on's", if I'm not wrong? I don't think I want to go for Topeak's seat-post rack. Just paranoid about it breaking. Since the frame doesn't have braze on's, I presume I would need a special rack and can't use standard racks which require mountin on the braze on's?

How about disc brakes? It seems as though a rack would interfere with the placement of my disc brakes.

That said, I'm looking for a rack to fit onto a mtb which doesn't have braze ons. Maybe clamps onto the seat-stays or maybe mounts onto the rear axle. It should be able to allow disc brakes too.

Any ideas / suggestions?

The Old Man Mountain racks seem very suitable. Only problem, they cost quite a bundle!

Check eBay. I bought OMM racks there, new old stock, for about half of list.

Hi, new to touring here. In a similar situation, Needing to fit a mtb (schwinn Moab 2) with a front rack.. Have come upon one that interests me The Tubus Swing front rack. Looks sturdy enough. The geometry seems right but looks like it would ride a bit high. ANyone else have experience with this or other racks?

I wonder how this one would work for you: Axiom Oddyssee front rack, Alfred E Bike catalog (http://aebike.com/site/page.cfm?PageID=30&SKU=RK6618). Spicer Cycles sells the same one (probably the same supplier). I have one on my MTB commuter, of course after ordering it, I switched to a rigid fork. The rack is supported by a heavy-duty front skewer and u-bolts on the forks. You have to remove the skewer (no quick-release) to get the front wheel off. The price is certainly right. Probably not as rugged as the OMM racks, so it is more suited to commuting or light touring.
