I kind of like the paint the way it is, it's only original once

I made the light housing myself, it's machined out of aircraft aluminum, the red lens is a glass aircraft position light lens,
I used a flashlight reflector and a six volt LED, it had gotten bumped in the picture, but I made it so it shines up at an angle,
towards drivers. I used phonelic plastic and rivets to hold the rear cover on, just like what was frequently used in lighting in the 70's

I wanted everything to look like it was made in the 70's, so I used bare electrical connectors with a knurled nut, just like what would have been on a generator.
I couldnt find a knurled nut, so I made one. The insulator is also phonelic plastic. the wire runs inside of a cable housing.

I made two of these frame clamps to run the cable housing holding the wire.

Star headlamp that was on the bike when I got it, it's been rebuilt internally with a 6 volt LED, the chrome was far too gone to save, so I painted it black.
There is an aluminum piece with a set screw inside that holds the cable housing with the wire,
the cable housing simply goes into the back of the light, it's very clean looking

I'm hoping to find a Brooks saddle soon, and I have a few other minor things to do, I used Atom 440 pedals, restored Weinmann wheels, and a Suntour freewheel, I cant think of the specs right now, it says something when a bike is so trashed the pedals are destroyed. I have my nice Italian toe clips, which fit great with the Atom pedals, but I need to order some straps before I can install them

I like how you used your machining skills.

I just couldn't put a plastic lamp or zip ties on this bike, If I could find a small metal folding frame pump, I would replace the Schwinn branded one, but that's pretty much a needed item for now, I have some vintage Ale Toe clips which will go on, and a yellow water bottle on the way. The bike rides great except for a chain slipping issue, which I think I have narrowed down to a worn chain, and the bottom bracket could use a greasing and cleaning, the bike was a mess when I got it, craigslist ad said, great bike! ready to ride. right............. guy was riding it on flat tires with no bearings in the head tube, the brake cables were shot, and the rear derailleur was some piece of junk he kept bragging he paid a bunch of money for, it wasn't even hooked up, my wife just gave me this look like "you're gonna buy this?" yep:) The new wheels came as a set, but I think I can respoke and save the original front, the back is toast, but has the original Schwinn freewheel and Schwinn puff high pressure road racer tire, it's going on the wall

Looks great , you weren't kidding when you told me you were a machinist a few weeks ago. That light and those cable clamps are first rate work. Well Done Sir, Well Done!

I think it will look better when I can get a brooks seat on it, but I might just recover whatever cheap Schwinn seat is on there now, for the immediate future, it's not a bad seat, it's just torn up, I've put a bunch of miles on it already
