Classic & Vintage - Raleigh Professional (1974) seat post binder bolt question.

I actually did an advanced search this time and came up empty. I'm trying to determine what seat post binder bolt was used on a 1974 Raleigh Professional. I don't think it was a Campy bolt because the "ears" on the seat tube have a slot cut on both sides, closest to the seat tube, to accomodate the "wings" on whatever binder bolt was used. I haven't found any Campy binder bolts that have wings. Could it have been a Raleigh binder bolt of some sort? Also, there are no threads in the ears.

I was gonna say, Didn't they used a binder bolt that was similar to what they did on many French bikes?.....So there will be like a "keyed" hole on at least one of the holes at the seatpost clamp ears...

Could be way different, Chombi, but my Le Champion was found with a Simplex binder bolt in it..French bike after all, but it has no key. Looks like a Campy one more or less. The Gitane though has a key slot in the cluster hole, for a keyed bolt. By the way Tsappenfield, is one of the sides of the hole threaded? I went searching after reading your post this morning and thought I read somewhere that some Pros had a threaded (tapped) seat post binder hole.

I'm using a Campy bolt in mine with no problems.

That'd be a fastback model. I think they were a standard allen bolt.

Mine is a "keyed" two piece bolt that says SIMPLEX on it, no reason to think it is not original, but I don't know for sure. The binder hole area is definitely not threaded, and has the "key" slots on one side.

No threads on either side of the ear holes and one key slot on both sides of the ear holes located closest to the seat tube. I see no reason why a Campy bolt wouldn't work, but I was just wondering if someone knew for sure what came with the original bike. Also, to AZORCH, please do check the bolt on your International.

8 x 19mm Model: SP-RE104 seems to be the likely one, although there are other sizes made by Campy. None appear to have the "wings" on them like the one I have. I cannot tell for certain whether my frame originally had those cuts for the binder bolt or whether over time the winged bolts carved them into it, but they do look even and symmetrical so they probably left Carlton that way.

I am inclined to leave mine the way it is, but will consider carefully your success in using a Campy bolt after you put some miles on it.

I can see enough of the bolt to think it is what is on mine, his says SIMPLEX. Quite possibly his is the best original condition bike of this model I have ever seen.

The Sugino bolts have a tab on one end. I would think a Campy bolt would work though.
