I had wanted to build a nice single speed bike to compliment my collection of bikes, I have vintage road bikes, a couple new mountain bikes....but no single speed bikes in my steed. I obtained a Benotto Modelo 850 frame cheap from a local bike shop. I wish I had taken before pics because this frame was nasty looking. It had some rust, bad paint, and no decals to speak of. I did a lot of research and it seemed I had a Modelo 850 w/ Columbus Zeta tubeset. I sanded down the whole frame and did a custom fade paintjob. This is my first repaint, and first bike to build from the ground up. I still have a little work to do but its mostly just getting the crankset, chain and stem/bars.
Im not one of those fixie nuts, I just thought it would be neat to build my own single speed bike. The decals are not period correct but I wasnt really after period correct with this build. The pictures are not the best...but you get the idea. I plan to add some cut down drop bars, a vintage quill stem, and a single front brake, along with a 46T Crankset that I have not ordered yet. Its going to have a 46/16 ratio which i think will be good for all around town riding. The wheelset is a Mavic CXP-22 I nabbed of Craigslist for 80 bucks. I wanted to try to keep this bike under 20lbs...and its going to be close when its all said and done. I will update this thread when I get more parts installed on it....but here is the progress so far. Let me know if you guys like it....
