Hybrid Bicycles - Help Me Appraise Used Cannondale Quick 5

Hi everyone,

Sorry for barging in with questions. I'm in the market for a new bicycle hence my incessant questions about Volpe, Sirrus, etc.

I came across a used Cannondale Quick 5 (http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/bik/3543672621.html). The owner claims that it was purchased 2 years ago and has been sitting in the storage. She also said that it was only used for 10-15 times. It comes with a lock and a helmet

Do you think $200 is a good deal? Please help? Thanks so much.

My wife tried the Trek Navigator and really didn't like it. She rode the Quick and loved it. I've heard stories of it being the other way around. So, first, make sure you ride it and it fits, you like the feel, etc. If all that checks out, $200 is a fair deal, IMHO. MSRP was $539 if I have the date right:

Wear and tear, condition, is nothing asking a Web forum can answer..

If it really does look like new, and it fits, it's a decent buy for 200. With that little use, it should be scratch and chip/nick free, with very little seeable wear on anything........`

It's a good deal. The only one 2 have found recently were large and they wanted
$350. I need an extra large.

I tried a Quick 6 last week and didn’t like it at all, it was my size but I felt squished riding it. The price seems fair and the main thing is that you like it and it feels good to you.

Test ride the bike, maybe ride it to your local bike shop and have them give it a once over if your not mechanically inclined to do so. They may give you advice on the fit also. Its only a good deal if it fits YOU! Good luck!

Also it appears to be a 2009 model going by the rake on the forks.

I'd say $200 would be an ok price only. I'd personally be happier paying $140ish as regardless of it's exterior, it hasn't been used for a long time and you may have to pay a bike shop to service it. I don't know the prices there, but I'm guessing around $80-$100 for a complete service.

EDIT...I find this amusing: "Aluminum frame featuring chainstays and seatstays to help absorb road vibration" (not many bikes don't have chainstays and seatstays)

She dropped the price when I pointed out to her that it's actually about $500 new (not on sale) however when I wanted to check out the bike, she changed her mind and told me that someone else is going to pay the full price $300 and pick it up this Friday.

Oh well, not my (un)luck :)

I did find another Cannondale Quick 5 for sale. It's only $190 but she doesn't know the mileage and from the look of it, it has been used for quite some time. I was thinking to pay $150 because she said it's a bit negotiable and has Kevlar tires.

@giantfcr1, you're right, it's about that price for a complete tune up, basic tune up cost about 65 bucks (2-3 years ago)

Taking it to the LBS will help since they can see the wear and tear..
Used, Expect Chain has to go, maybe the cassette, too.. at a Min.

Seems like a good deal to me if the MSRP is $500 unless the paint is in rough shape. Around here $150-200 will get you a much older hybrid than that. Things I would check are the shifting, brakes and trueness of the wheels (spin the wheels and see how much they "wobble" side-to-side as they go past the brake pads.) You didn't mention your gender but that looks like a female frame.
