Bicycle Mechanics - Velocity Rims: USA vs AUS

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just built up a set of Velocity Synergy 650b wheels. Front (symmetric) rim was labeled "made in USA" and had eyelets that were tight. Rear OC rim was labeled "made in australia" and the eyelets were loose, rattling, and seemed to almost pull through the holes when tightened.
per an announcement on their website a few months ago, they are moving all operations to a new factory in the US.
glad to see they are up and running, it was beginning to look like their availability was going to be a bit sketchy for awhile.
Santa brought me an Aeroheat wheel on Xmas. Rim sticker: 'Made in Australia'. Of interest is that the Velocity-branded skewer is an enclosed-mechanism style.

Australian DeepV ERD = 582 to flat of a 12mm standard profile nipple.
American DeepV ERD = 581 to flat of a 12mm standard profile nipple.
Difference is appears to be the while the Australian version had raw joint sleeve resulting in the nipples sitting deeper in the rim adjacent to the joint, the American version has the holes in the joint sleeve counter-sunk resulting the same seat behavior for the nipples throughout the entire rim.
So double-check your ERDs as American made Velocity's replace Australian made Velocity's...

I stayed with 567 ERD as measured on a previous build (Velocity Synergy 650B AUS) when ordering spokes. They're built now and I do notice maybe 1mm extra spoke "poke" on the USA rims versus the AUS rims. Probably easily within margin of error but I think I'm changing my DB to 566 anyway since I tend to round up on spoke length. Thanks for the note.
