Classic & Vintage - Oh no!

So my Simplex SLJ derailer was acting sluggish and not taking up chain slack when I was shifting down to my small chainring. I inspected the upper pivot (where the mech. attaches to the braze-on), and just inserted an allen and attempted to loosen the hanger bolt. A little too much torquing later I heard a snap and realized my mistake. Does anyone know of a source for replacement lipped washers? For clarification there is a great photo on flickr that shoes the part I am talking about.

I'd stop at a LBS that's been around for awhile and see if they have something in the parts drawer they could make work. Done that once or twice on a few tune ups at work to save the customer a few dollars and keep the bike looking correct vs putting on a modern one and calling it a day.

It what manner did the "washer" snap?

Did the bolt snap off? If not, you're in luck. I have some of those tabbed washers, exactly as shown. I'll send you a PM.

EDIT: just took another look at that picture. My washers look exactly like that, except, they DO NOT have the small holes he mentions for the end of the spring. Wouldn't be hard, though, to add them. These are stainless steel I think. You can have one if you want. I sent you a PM.

On the other hand ...maybe you'd better just get rid of that "sluggish" French POS derailleur and stick a Suntour on there.

You want a free washer, Sashimi? Or not....

I received not one but two spectacular washers from the ever-generous root boy. I have tried drilling a spring hole into the washers, but have yet to find the perfect bit. I have been told I need a new carbide bit, and have been on the hunt. I will post progress after the weekend!

On the plus side I have dis-assembled, cleaned, and reassembled the upper 'hinge' (if thats what it is called) and the spring seems as strong as ever!
