On another note, if you look through iab's(I think it was his I saw) jpegs, you might be amazed how much bicycle racing was going on in Italy during WW2.

By '42 the Italians were mostly waiting for the Allies to arrive and get rid of the Germans anyhow. They had plenty of time for racing.
