Touring - LHT with xd 600 Crankset: BB Spindle length?

I'm looking for a spindle length to match a Surly Long Haul Trucker with a Sugino XD 600 Crankset. The stock catalog lists the length as 118mm, but that is longer than normal... Older conversations (circa 2008) on here say you are fine with the 113 listed in the xd 600 specs and that even 110 is good, but I'm wondering if geometry has changed.

Does anyone have a recent Long Haul trucker build with this crankset? As a side note I'm wondering how shifting is with a 9-speed chain since the xd 600 is technically only 8 speeds. I'll be using ultegra bar-ends.

My bike came OME with 114mm bb but it wasn't a LHT. I found the shifting somewhat sluggish with some dropped chains going to the inner chain ring. When I changed from 9 speed 105 integrated shifters to bar ends on Thumbies it got better and better yet when I replaced all the chain rings with Race Face rings.

There is no Normal Length the crank arm design influences the BB it requires super low profile design
the arm comes in to meet a shorter spindle , Old designs like TA used a long BB to reach out to the crank arm.

Get the BB that lets the chainring just clear the seatstay on the frame ..

Have your Bike shop Help you with that, then you don't have to ship your rejects back ..

I found that the 110mm spindle length is ideal when using the XD600 crankset on my LHT. It was a little surprising, because Sugino's recommendation is 113 or 118 I believe. When Surly was equipping the LHT with the Sugino cranksets as stock items, they also used the 110mm bottom bracket length.

I used a 110 on my 2011 LHT and my Sugino crank as well. I could have gotten by with the 113 but my crank is the 46-36-24 and so I spend most of my time in my big ring and therefore I got a little better chain line by using the 110. YMMV

btw, your 9 speed chain will work fine with that crankset

I mounted my Sugino XD (http://www.wereldfietser.nl/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=164983#p164983) cranks on a 113mm BB, resulting in a ca 50mm chainline as per Shimano SLX front derailer's specs. Clearance on my 26" 62cm LHT is perfectly fine with 24 teeth smallest ring.

Thanks everybody... huge help. I didn't know if the beefier geometry would have led to a change in recent years, but i'm going with the 110 based on comments here. This will be a commuter bike in chicago for much of the year so i expect i'll be in the high chainring too.

I had an '08 trucker, and now have a '12 with the same crank and bb. The 110 provides a nice chainline on both frames.
