Am trying to decide if or not to take my 32 lb front shock mountain bike to Ireland for 4 weeks or to just rent a "touring" bike when I get there. open for any/all comments. Newbie at this touring thing. thanks

The only bikes you can rent in Ireland if you are an independant traveller are low-grade hybrid styles. I used one and had loads of fun. Later I went back and took my touring bike.
Some tour companies have higher grade tour bikes for their own customers.
Take your own bike if you can. There are lots of good mountain trails and lanes. Fit some semi-slick touring tyres and you will be able to ride anything. There are plenty of inependant hostels so camping is not neccessary.

Be sure to factor in the costs associated with bringing our own bike. Most airlines charge a fee.

If you do rent, take your own saddle, pedals and pannier bags if you have them.
