howdy to the group...1st time poster

current drive all 8 spd sora. just so happen to have a 9 spd 105 (w/correct splined bb) handy. would i have any problems swaping out only the crank and bb and keeping the rest of the drive intact with the 8 spd sora for now..eventually i want to go? the 105 is 170 while the sora is 175...i've always used 170 and consider it personal preference to stay that way.

ok to use a sram 8 spd chain or any other suggestions would be welcomed.

thanks

No problem, just like using a 10 speed crankset on a 9 speed drivetrain...
