i know this is going to sound really new but o well=0 What is the difference between a sproket and a chainwhell or are they the same thing?

They basically are the same thing. I imagine that there is some more esoteric definition that differentiates the two words, and quite often people will refer to their rear sprocket as a sprocket and the front sprocket as a chain wheel. But, I really have only heard them used interchanably.

Same thing, but I haven't heard anyone call it a chainwheel in years.

chainwheel is a solid disc with the single mounting bolt, chainrings attach to a 5 arm spider.
