Dear fellow mechanics,

Does anyone know how to make a spring tensioner for coilsprings?
I had to take my coil from the shock, because i needed to refresh shockoil.
That`s done so far; but now i have to tension (shorten) the coil, in order to mount the topcap with bolt.
I`ve been thinking the whole day, but i`m stuck
All solutions are welcome!!!

regards,

You need some kind of spring compressor. The ones used in automotive repair hook onto the sides of a coil, then you turn the bolts to compress. This type requires 2 or more compressors.
the other type uses a perpendicular arm and a long bolt through the bottom of the spring to compress it. Some applications can't use this type of compressor
I'm sure there is a scaled-down version of one of these. You may have to go to the LBS to use it, though.

I did it!
I did use my benchvise again, pretty tricky but it worked.
This is always a great feeling, working the whole day on your bike and in the end it it works!!!

I`m a happy mechanic :)

Anyway thanks for the thoughts D`alex,
