General Cycling Discussion - Anyone use this lock?

I have just told Amir about this lock, he posted in his thread about locks. this lock is called the Master Lock Strret Cuff, and it has no fixed anchor point, no space for jacks, hardened steel laminated construction, and it folds in half for easy carrying. www.masterlockbike.com :beer:

Unique idea, and a $4000.00 theft guarantee, not bad! However the MSRP is $125.00... I'll stick to my NYC U-Lock for a few more years :)

Joe, youre right, it is a cool idea, but the price is kind of high, I would like to try it though to see how it works. :beer:

With a diameter of 3" how do you get it around the seat tube and rear wheel like when using a standard U lock? Or do you just slip one side of the cuffs around the frame and lock the other cuff to a parking meter or sign pole?
That doesn't lock the wheels. Not a good idea!!

That was my question too. It seems that the intention is to use it to cuff a wheel to a post? Or a frame to a post? Seems like you might need three of them to do the job. Say... 3 cuffs at $125 each = $375 for the locks. Hmmm.... how about I let my bike get stolen and just take the insurance?

I use a Specialized lock that is cable...its really thick and layered with 7 different materials so it cant be cut so easily. The outer layer is a webbing so bolt cutters cant even get a grip on it. The lock also is short enough to wrap around your bike and whatever you're locking it to, but not long enough so a crook could get enough slack on it to work with.

if you watch the flash demo, it shows a person using the cuff with a regular steel braided chain/cord, to protect your wheels, with the cuff attached to the rear rim and the poll. so for sure the rear wheel is safe but someone could cut the chain/cord and get the front... :rolleyes:

I think masterlock made it as a in and out of store lock that way ppl in a hurry didn't have to carry around a huge bike lock. Personally I think they look cool and are neat but I wouldn't buy/use them.

Works like a charm! Just ordered one for myself! Here in NYC last month (Manhattan) alone there were 50 foiled attempts at stealing bikes--- all due to this lock alone! All were apprehended because they were too damn stupid to give up! I don't know how the other boros faired, but Mahattan has more bicycle riders (messengers,schools and commuters) as well as the highest theft rate due to the preceeding. I would highly recommend this lock. I applaud Master Lock for its'ingenious design mechanism and the reward offer.

have never buy me a bike lock, coz, I will never leave my bike unattended when I am riding it, when stop to buy me some drinks or eats in a restaurant during a long ride I will bring my bike with me inside, if the manager throw me out becuase I brought my bike inside, then you don't get mybussiness , I only patronize bike friendly bussiness when I ride my bike
